Description
Method Studios New York is currently in search of a Senior FX artist to join the 3D team.
Responsibilities and Duties
• works in conjunction with the VFX Supervisor, Producer, and Production Manager to develop a strong and flexible CG and 2D pipeline
• works with the Project Coordinator and Producer to facilitate the scheduling of artists and resources
• works with the VFX Supervisors to provide artistic and technical notes to the team
• develops, maintains, and/or approves animation techniques
• provides team-building through developing structure
• leads artists, delegating roles and responsibilities
• follows CG elements from concept through to final comp, overseeing all elements created by the CG team
• conducts industry research and development
• designs, executes, and manages high-level animation for use in final compositing through a team, reporting progress to the Head of 3D VFX
• may also be called upon to work ''on the box'' as the lead artist, as show size and needs require.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Animation, Arts, Fine Arts, or equivalent production experience
• proficient with Houdini
• knowledge of any and/or all of the following:
• rigid body and particle dynamics
• volume modeling and rendering
• procedural geometry generation
• fluid dynamics
• strong understanding of physical dynamics and natural phenomena
• experience with one or more other professional software packages, such as Maya and Nuke is a plus
• proficiency in shading a rendering techniques, ideally through both Mantra and Renderman
• Python scripting is a plus
visual targets and quality
• addresses the body of work arriving from scanning. Previews for initial color-correction requirements and initial shot composite requirements.
• monitors shot continuity in all aspects of quality control including final color-correction for timely delivery.team building
• reviews reels and recommend artists for interview.
• attends interviews / interviews candidates.
• recommends candidates for hiring, in consultation with Head of 3D VFX and project leads.
• recommends / negotiates leads directly to Head of 3D.team training
• ensures leads are fluent with production techniques.
• defines crew training plans with leads.
• oversees training of new team members.
• conducts one-on-one training with team members.
• assists leads with training as deemed necessary.team guidance
• facilitates production needs of every team member.
• corrects and cautions team members.
• maintains team morale / provides incentives as discussed with Head of 3D VFX.R&D
• tests new techniques and technology as necessary.
• helps leads and crew develop ''one-off'' techniques as necessary.scheduling and daily work
• schedules teams and shifts with Producer and Coordinator.
• makes shot deliveries with Producer and Coordinator.
• monitors resources, throughout each day, and delegates work priorities based on fluctuations in schedule and shot progress.
• oversees the management of the render farm and resource workload.
• monitors the render queue and reviews previous night logs for deviance on a daily basis.
• reviews progress of shots for film-out on a daily basis, and approves shots as ready for film-out when the criteria are met.
• performs as a Senior Compositor, completing shots towards final and troubleshooting shot related issues.
• assisting with notes and archives if necessary
