Full Time Job
The primary focus of the Renger Engineer Supervisor role is in render farm management and infrastructure engineering. The candidate will require expertise in systems administration and architecture along with systems deployment and render farm configuration/management (Qube). Candidate will work to implement and improve the existing in-house infrastructure, ensure the render farm is operating at peak efficiency, expand the farm as needed, track licensing, and work with productions to ensure farm allocation requirements are met. Candidates will contribute to the design of future architecture in addition to evaluating and integrating third-party solutions for hardware, software, and workflow for maintenance of operations across a multi-site world-class post and visual effects facility.
Responsibilities and Duties
• Systems installation, configuration and operation
• Hardware integration and deployment
• Software installation
• Configuration management (Puppet, Spacewalk, or equivalent)
• Networking
• Incident response and management
• Setup and installation of Linux and open-source extension packages
• Manage and deploy render resources (Qube)
• Work with pipeline team to identify issues and plan for expansion
• Track license utilization and availability to plan for expansion
• Develop internal systems tools and utilities for operating, monitoring, and reporting on render farm availability and operation
• Develop and maintain written operational procedures for routine processes
• Administer servers and network services
• Assist with administering network switches, network storage and associated tape backup system, Virtual Server Infrastructure, Databases, User accounts, Email technologies, Firewall, Internet and Digital Security, User support and troubleshooting
• Analyze and tune systems for performance, throughput, resource utilization, high availability, and scalability
• Evaluate system components, software, networking infrastructure and hardware peripherals for reliability, performance, scalability and security
• Research in order to maintain a working knowledge of relevant hardware and software applications, including emerging technologies
• Evaluate business requirements and make recommendations on systems design and hardware purchases to fulfill business needs
• Ensure senior studio staff are trained in the operation of new render and software solutions
• Conduct staff training one-on-one or with large teams where necessary
Qualifications
• Bachelors in Computer Science, Information Systems or comparable professional experience
• Minimum 4-years' experience in a professional systems engineering environment
• Advanced knowledge of Linux server and desktop environments
• Knowledge of OSX and Windows platforms
• Experience working with PipelineFX Qube render management system
• Programming experience with at least one of Python or Bash
• Experience building and operating high availability and high scalability computing systems
• Knowledge of SQL databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL
• Ability and desire to learn new technologies as required
• Ability to solve problems unsupervised and recommend proactive technical solutions
• Positive can-do attitude combined with the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
• Experience mentoring junior team members and supervising junior staff
• Ability to conduct meetings, presentations, and training sessions
• Excellent communication and organizational skill with strong attention to detail
• Optional Skills that would be a plus:
- Experience working in Film, TV, and/or post-production industry
