Reporting to the Head of 3D, and working with the project's CG Supervisor, the Lead Modeller will help create and design accurate and efficient models in the assigned timeframe as outlined by the Supervisor. The Lead Modeller is responsible for ensuring high quality models and textures are produced by all Modellers. The position requires a high degree of technical skill and artistic judgement, as well as strong leadership, time management, and mentoring skills.
The Lead Modeller should have the ability to serve as a key front-line representative of the company and able to frequently deal directly with clients in challenging situations. Accordingly, a professional demeanor and diplomacy are important.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Create models (characters, sets and props) as required by the project
• Complete assigned modeling tasks in a timely manner
• Set and refine technical standards for modellers to meet
• Ensure all modellers are working within the Method pipeline
• Ensure all dailies standards are enforced
• Ensure all working files are efficiently organized
• Vet all models created by modelling team for quality
• Follow Supervisor directions, ensuring models created are accurate and effective
• Interact with production team in a positive manner and take direction and criticism in good humour
• Report technical problems and potential problems to Supervisors in a timely fashion
• Fully comprehend the requirements on the designs thereby creating models true to their designs. In particular:
• Create models with appropriate point counts
• Create models with valid and efficient UV layouts
• Create models conforming to modern standards, being aware of penetrations, overlapping geometry, proper edge loops, etc.
• Create models that can be exported cleanly to other packages used in the production
Qualifications
• 5 years Modelling experience, and at least 1 or 2 projects as a lead
• Knowledge of Zbrush or Mudbox
• Advanced knowledge of displacement map and normal map generation
• Knowledge of one or more high-end 3D software packages such as Maya or Houdini
• Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and/or Gimp
• Advanced knowledge of polygonal and patch geometry modeling
• Advanced knowledge of material, texturing
• Advanced knowledge of skeleton and rigging setup
• Advanced knowledge of basic expression setup
• Intermediate or higher knowledge of Linux
• Scripting ability an asset
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize
• Knowledge of keyframe animation
• Excellent team player
• Excellent file management skills
• Excellent communication skills
