Manages all technical aspects of a broadcast production studio facility. Ensures that the studio facility operates efficiently and in compliance with management requirements and all federal, state and local agencies. Supervises all maintenance, production and operational staff within the department. Oversees physical operations and improvements; including but not limited to, all electronic television equipment as well as building related issues. Utilizes knowledge and understanding of the technical future of broadcasting and syndication along with the ability to identify cost reductions and business opportunities. Will be expected to effectively execute other related responsibilities as needed.Essential Job Functions35%
- Manages personnel and participates in the performance evaluation process. Manages equipment of the technical department and other areas as assigned.
- Manages the daily operations of the studio including modernization, new construction, safety and security.
- Effectively communicates with staff and other departments within the studio division. Participates in staff meetings and ensures information is exchanged and disseminated between staff and other departments.
- Prepares and manages technical department budgets to ensure departmental spending is within budget.
- Oversees project management activities related to plant improvements, new construction and broadcasting and syndication assignments. Ensures completion by estimated time line and brings project in or under budget.
- Maintains the physical facility (studio) to acceptable levels of operational requirements by OSHA, FCC, federal, state and local agencies. Performs hands-on technical equipment maintenance.
- Prepares and manages department and capital equipment budget. Reviews equipment and facility requirements for purchase of additional and replacement items.
- Administers the engineering portion of the Strategic and Business Continuity plans in compliance with corporate policies
Minimum Qualifications:
All must be met to be considered.
Education:Bachelor's degree in Journalism or related field, or equivalent technical training and/or experience.Experience:At least two full years of experience in coordinating live news in a production or technical role and management capacitySpecific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Production and operations experience needed; Studio cameras, Grass Valley switcher, audio and lighting knowledge a plus. Operation of ENG and SNG receive systems, nonlinear edit systems such as Avid, a must and Final Cut Studio is a plus. Studio, production or newsroom computer systems including iNews and ENPS.Effective verbal and written communication skills which will be used on a regular and consistent basis including during performance evaluations, coaching and counseling.Ability to be a leader and coordinate staffing and productions schedules. Must have strong problem solving skills in order to resolve any technical issues as they arise quickly.Experience with Pathfire, satellite and microwave feeds. Closed captioning experience.Strong attention to detail, follow up and problem resolutionAbility to meet deadlines that change frequently. |
