Marvel is seeking an entry level attorney to join Marvel's Business and Legal Affairs team.
This position will be based in Marvel's office in New York City.
Marvel's legal team works closely and collaborates heavily to manage a robust business licensing Marvel's famous characters on numerous categories of merchandise and promotional activities across various platforms. We work with extremely talented creative and business teams who help drive one of the strongest entertainment brands in the world. This role requires strong dedication to support the ideas and visions of the company and ensure that Marvel's characters are protected and represented properly when in the hands of our licensees and partners. Duties of the Counsel position will primarily involve negotiating and drafting agreements licensing Marvel's characters and media to third parties, including consumer products license agreements and co-promotional marketing licenses. The position will work very closely with Marvel's other licensing and business affairs attorneys and will be a great opportunity to learn from colleagues to be an effective and capable IP transactional attorney.

Responsibilities
- Negotiate and draft consumer products license agreements and related documents to support Marvel's robust merchandising business.
- Negotiate and draft NDAs and co-promotion and product placement agreements related to Marvel's partnership business in connection with Marvel's blockbuster films and television programs.
- Negotiate, draft and manage various types of agreements related to Marvel's themed entertainment business, which oversees use of Marvel's characters in live shows, theme parks, traveling exhibits, attractions and presence at comic conventions.
- Keep track of Marvel's obligations to its partners and licensees.
- Coordinate with Marvel and The Walt Disney Company to ensure company guidelines and industry best practices are followed.
- Support and protect Marvel's brand and intellectual property with various anti-piracy tools.
- Anticipate and identify issues and risks, recommending potential solutions, and identifying trends in the areas of law relating to brand licensing.
Basic Qualifications
- Admission to the New York State Bar (or Registered In-House Counsel) and law degree from an accredited law school.
- Intellectual property and/or licensing experience (or knowledge of industry), strongly preferred.
- Basic familiarity of Marvel's diverse and intricate universe or overall business a bonus.
- Solid awareness of entertainment trends, consumer products, consumer behavior, e-commerce and popular brands.
- Detail-oriented with strong contract drafting and negotiation skills.
- Strong interest in the entertainment and licensing industry and willingness to learn and adapt in an evolving industry.
- Must have strong interpersonal skills, and be able to interact effectively with individuals inside and outside the company from varied disciplines, such as sales teams, finance and creative departments.
- Must be able to communicate with various legal and business groups in a succinct, effective manner
- Ability to coordinate with business units to help them meet their goals, while mitigating risk.
- Ability to work in an environment with a high degree of confidentiality.
Required Education
Law degree from accredited law school.
