DIRECTOR, PRODUCTION FINANCE
MarVista Entertainment is a fast-growing, full service independent entertainment studio with a mission to produce, acquire, and distribute premium film and television programming worldwide. Mar Vista is looking for an experienced Director, Production Finance with both corporate studio finance and on-set production/post production accounting experience. This position is the finance business partner to all Production departments in the company supporting development and physical production. The role works very closely with the Executive Director, FP&A and SVP, Business Affairs to ensure the Company has accurate and reliable financial information on all productions. The Director will oversee the Manager, Production Finance and together they will manage show accountants, production budgets, and cost reporting. The Director also oversees the Production Financial Analyst who supports month-end close (corporate accounting), cash management, forecasting, and production green lights. Other responsibilities within the Production Finance Department include Green Lights, Residual analysis and forecasting, analyzing new production models, and management of Post Production Accounting. Reports to CFO.
Responsibilities:
• Manage the financial aspect for production and development slates for all MarVista Productions
• Work directly with production executives and line producers during the production budgeting phase, prior to green light
• Run budget comparison analysis for Tax Incentive territories
• Run production budget and residual impact analysis for various production types (Theatrical/TV/Made-For-New-Media/etc.)
• Develop green light packages for new productions
• Review and approve cash flow schedules
• Manage weekly funding requests and inform Accounting of daily cash requirement
• Oversee accurate inventory cost per unit reporting (ABC accounting)
• Coordinate set-up of shows with payroll houses and negotiate competitive rates
• Lead production accounting training seminars for external producers new to the industry
• Review cost reports and report consolidated findings to finance and production executives on a weekly basis. Coordinate meetings between executives and line producers when necessary
• Work closely with Business Affairs to ensure production legal requirements and commitments are being met
• Owner of Residual Ultimate/Forecast and work closely with Business Legal SVP to ensure accuracy of assumptions
• Closely monitor financial data and take quick actions to remedy issues before there is a significant financial impact
• Continually improve the production finance policies and procedures manual and design templates required to standardize production finance deliverables from external producers
• Ensure team obtains all financial studio and union deliverables at complete delivery
• Oversee reconciliation of funding to cash actuals and ensure resolution of variances before sign-off
• Keep track of outstanding deposits to be returned and status of tax incentives
• Prepare journal entries in accordance with ASC 926
• Manage post-production accounting performed in-house
• Assist finance executives with preparation for weekly slate meetings and Monthly Operating Reviews by providing accurate data for project analysis
• Oversee the monthly close for all production accounting activities and corporate allocations to productions
• Oversee the financial forecast and cash flow forecast for all productions and development projects
• Plan and perform production cost verification and operational audits
• Provide tax preparer with Section 181 analysis for all Mar Vista produced productions
• Assist in process mapping and updating system descriptions for new implementations
• Other duties and special projects as assigned by CFO, CEO, or EVPs of Development & Production.

• Strong leadership skills to manage a team with an ability to nurture and educate new hires in a fast growing company.
• Demonstrates confident public speaking/presentation abilities.

Basic Requirements:
• Must have a bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, MBA a plus
• Minimum 8 years' experience in the Entertainment Industry
• Minimum or 5 years' experience in feature film or television production; production accounting or line producing experience preferred
• Minimum 3-5 years' experience in a Studio environment with financial forecasting skills.
• In depth knowledge and understanding of union payroll, including interpretation of low budget agreements (SAG, DGA, WGA and IA) - Canadian and International experience a plus
• Tax Incentive experience (applications, estimate calculation and maximizing qualified spend)
• Software Proficiency: PSL3, Vista, MediaWin/Web, MovieMagic
• Familiarity with Canadian Content requirements a plus
• ASC 926 (SOP-002)
• 1099 & Section 181 Tax Reporting
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• MS Office Skills: Advanced Excel; PowerPoint & Word
