SoCal's premier lifestyle magazine is seeking creative interns with a high level of enthusiasm and strong work ethic.
We prefer candidates majoring in English, Journalism, Communication, or Business Administration.
Working as an editorial intern for Malibu Magazine requires persistence, dedication, and energy. As an intern, you will be assisting the editorial, advertising and art department to create a bi-monthly culture and lifestyle publication, based out of Los Angeles. Being able to handle the waves of chaos, calm, and time-sensitive tasks is crucial in order to help things run smoothly in the office, so becoming familiar with handling mail, answering phone calls properly, and dealing with office walk-ins will not only help keep the office organized, but be a major help for the supervisors.
As a candidate, you should have familiarity with lifestyle publications and fashion/art/culture blogs. You will be exposed to all aspects of the publication cycle ranging from business to creative. There may be opportunities to assist on-set based on needs. We need you to be organized, self-motivated, able to think critically, creatively and quickly. It is important to learn quickly and adapt to the work environment; this means becoming fluent in working with servers, making calls, and showing up promptly at the office or to any meetings. A major responsibility as an intern is communication, with the editors, with other interns, and with people who handle tasks related to the office (USPS, UPS, FedEx, Maintenance). Being a team-player is a must!
Duties include:
- Office admin support.
- Answering phones.
- Scanning documents.
- Thinking creatively, critically for research projects - we appreciate out of the box thinkers.
- Assisting on shoots.
- Researching for upcoming issues
- Contacting potential subjects in the magazine
Requirements for this position include:
- Reliable transportation
- Commitment for a minimum of 20 hours per week
- Prior office admin experience
- Comfort in fast-paced environments
- Strong sense of self-awareness
This is an unpaid internship - we offer college credit, and you will be credited on our masthead for any issue that you've contributed to.
