Responsibilities
The team is seeking an attorney to work in our fast-paced environment on innovative, high-profile, industry leading production, development and sales activities of Maker Studios. The attorney will work with senior attorneys to provide legal consultation related to digital marketing, user generated content, short form content production, business development, marketing, sales, intellectual property, programming, technology and social media marketing along with corporate and international compliance matters for various departments. We are looking for a bright, energetic, self-motivated and reliable person who can exercise discretion and the highest level of ethics in working with leaders and clients at Maker Studios and throughout Disney Consumer Products Interactive and The Walt Disney Company.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Drafting, negotiating and closing transactions (e.g., production services, distribution, talent, web series, branded entertainment, original content and other related agreements) relating to the development and production of short form digital content and other content originally created for display and distribution on the Internet and other digital platforms
Advising sales, marketing, licensing/acquisition and entertainment executives and personnel throughout the globe regarding the creation and acquisition of content, IP clearance, deal structures, regulatory and legal compliance relating to the creation and distribution of content.
Advising the forgoing on marketing campaigns involving social and connected interactive content, consumer products, mobile apps and games
Advising on user generated content initiatives, advertisement and endorsement guidelines, and online promotions
Researching, interpreting and advising on existing company and third party contracts and various legal issues relating to all of the foregoing
Basic Qualifications
The qualifications and attributes of the successful candidate are as follows:
• Minimum of three (3) years experience negotiating and drafting contracts for a law firm advising clients in the entertainment or technology industry or for a corporate legal department, preferably specializing in entertainment and/or digital media related matters
• Admission to California State Bar Association or willingness and qualification to be Registered In-House
• Exposure to and an understanding of matters relating to intellectual property, particularly copyright law.
• Self motivated, with outstanding interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate complex concepts and issues effectively with colleagues, counterparts and management at all levels
• Ability to multi-task and work quickly and collaboratively under tight deadlines
• Ability to identify and analyze complex issues and devise solutions and strategies
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong drafting, negotiating and writing skills
• Ability to problem solve in an efficient, business-friendly, creative manner
• An excellent work ethic and commitment to professionalism
• Must be willing to take ownership of projects and think proactively
• Ability to handle a high volume of work and work through projects with minimal supervision
• Superior organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize workload efficiently and effectively
• Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
