Overview and Responsibilities
MTV is seeking a dynamic, hard-working communications executive to oversee its Communications teams, and provide leadership in shaping the story for the brand. Candidates should possess a strong grasp of both the media and cultural landscapes, and the ability to apply that knowledge in shaping the narrative and articulating strategy for MTV.
This leader will serve on MTV’s senior executive team, providing strategic communications counsel across the organization while overseeing three functional areas:
• Corporate Communications, developing and executing communications strategy for executive communications, brand strategy, Ad Sales, Digital, Research, Public Affairs and other elements of MTV’s business. Also coordinating with Viacom Corporate Communications around broader company projects, initiatives and communications activity.
• Program Publicity, overseeing and guiding publicity strategy for the network’s original series, which includes unscripted, scripted, original movies and documentaries, live programming and formats, specials and its marquee events, including the MTV Video Music Awards and the MTV Movie and TV Awards.
The role will report directly to the President of the MTV, VH1 and Logo Group, and work collaboratively with the head of Corporate Communications for Viacom as well.
Basic Qualifications
• 10 to 15 years of experience in Communications and Public Relations, with significant experience in entertainment, media and technology, or politics and public affairs preferred
• Bachelor’s Degree required, advanced degree in related field a plus
Additional Qualifications
• A passion for the MTV brand, and a love of pop and youth culture, music and entertainment
• Excellent relationships with key press, or a ability to cultivate and maintain those relationships
• Ability to help shape the narrative for a dynamic, fluid brand that is committed to constant reinvention
• Excellent written and oral communications skills
• Ability to lead a bi-coastal team with diversified skillsets
• Highly collaborative, flexible and adaptable, with strong diplomatic and influencing skills
• Superior conceptual and critical thinking skills
• A track record of innovation and creative risk-taking
