At Lynda.com, a LinkedIn company, the Manager, Audio Engineering is responsible for the vision, strategy, and execution of all pre-production, production and postproduction audio processes for Lynda.com instructional and documentary content. This position requires strong leadership attributes with the ability to manage cross-functional teams and motivate staff toward action and achieving goals. The Manager evaluates new and emerging technologies, manages production recording, and directs a team of Audio Engineers.
This individual has accountability for all aspects of group operation and direction in support of the company's goals and instructional expectations. This employee will be responsible for developing and administering budgets, scheduling, staffing, and performance standards for the group. They will be an active participant on the management strategy team and will provide input critical to promoting advanced development efforts.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for supporting all aspects of (onsite and remote) recording processes and ensuring production quotas and broadcast quality deliverables are completed according to the release schedule.
Manage the team operations; prioritize assignments, set goals, evaluate work and quality control of work performed.
Responsible for providing the Audio Engineering team with direction in the planning, design, development, and implementation of efficient equipment and production pipelines.
Responsible for creating and revising audio engineering best practices documentation for distribution to global postproduction facilities.
Provide briefings to senior management including regular status reports and periodic reviews of major issues and programs.
Partner with IT team to streamline the audio engineering production processes and develop installation best practices.
Partner with Post Production Managers and Producers (Instructional Designers) to ensure course production quality and efficiency.
Provide direction, mentoring, and training to the Audio team as part of regular employee development.
Set staff performance expectations and provide regular feedback via informal and formally scheduled reviews.
Facilitate successful project definition, planning, estimating, budgeting, scheduling, resourcing, and lead high-performance project teams.
Evaluate new engineering tools and technologies to refine and improve engineering processes and collaboration.
Provide resources and estimates to support preparation of new business proposals.
Manage the Audio Engineering Operations and Capital Expenditure budgets.
Provide staffing forecasts and participate in all hiring activity.
Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Basic qualifications:
10+ years experience recording, editing, and mixing dialogue, sound effects, and music
5+ years managing teams and projects
Bachelor's degree in Audio Engineering or equivalent experience
Preferred qualifications:
Expert-level knowledge of recording in remote environments with a variety of microphones and audio interfaces
Expert-level studio wiring skills and proven track record of efficient troubleshooting techniques
Expert-level Pro Tools and iZotope user preferred
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and team building skills
Experience with experimental microphone techniques that result in the best audio for a given situation
Experience with studio design and sound reinforcement of new and existing locations
Strong understanding of post-production and editing standards and best practices
Exceptional problem-solving skills, including the ability to quickly understand, identify, and effectively communicate solutions
Experience working with a wide variety digital cameras and devices and their audio connectivity
