Stage Manager
Founded in 1919, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association's mission is to perform, present, and promote music in its varied forms at the highest level of excellence to a diverse and large audience, both at the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Hollywood Bowl. The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association is dedicated to continuing its pre-eminent status in the music world of the 21st century.
Position Summary:
Work as a key member of the production team, together with the Production Director and Production Manager to insure the professional production and stage management of all concert presentations at the Walt Disney Concert Hall and Hollywood Bowl.
Position Elements:
• In collaboration with in-house event producers, coordinate the staging of all LAPA produced events at WDCH and the Hollywood Bowl, working with the Production Director and Production Manager
• Share production and stage management duties for rehearsals and concerts at Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Hollywood Bowl with the Production Director and Production Manager
• As stage manager, call all production and show-related cues, and communicate all show-related information such as starting and ending time, audience late seating breaks, intermission lengths, etc.
• Participate in supervising the stage crew at Walt Disney Concert Hall and Hollywood Bowl to insure professional productions.
• Compile, create and distribute schedules and information for stage crew
• Work with the Production Manager to order additional equipment required for shows, including backline equipment and instrument rentals, working with appropriate artist/orchestra operations management
• In collaboration with in-house event producers, advance productions as directed and necessary, including classical and presentations (jazz, world, pop, rock, songbook)
• Review and prepare weekly stage crew payroll for final approval by Production Director
• Review and route invoices to be paid in a timely manner, for final approval by Production Director
• Organize crew meals; create and distribute meal tickets
• Coordinate and distribute information for production and artistic staff
• Manage all production elements for education programs and events in BP Hall, Choral Hall and Keck Amphitheatre as necessary
• Coordinate and distribute parking memos and passes related to stagehands
• Distribute backstage credentials
• Create timing sheets for concerts
• Other production duties as required
Position Requirements:
• College Degree, major in Theater Arts with technical specialization preferred
• Minimum of 3 years previous professional work experience as Stage Manager or in production role
• Experience working with union contracts
• Experience with payroll and budgeting
• Technical knowledge of performance venues
• Ability to read music
• Excellent organizational skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and proven track record of attention to detail and responsiveness
• Willing to work flexible hours and weekends
• Excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint; CAD and Vectorworks a plus.
• Ability to:
• Deal tactfully at all levels
• Remain calm under pressure
• Focus on many projects simultaneously and to meet deadlines
• Thrive in a fast-paced environment with high volume of work
• Work effectively in a highly collaborative and communicative team environment
