Stage Manager
Founded in 1919, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association's mission is to perform, present, and promote music in its varied forms at the highest level of excellence to a diverse and large audience, both at the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Hollywood Bowl. The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association is dedicated to continuing its pre-eminent status in the music world of the 21st century.
Position Summary:
Work as a member of the production team, to insure the successful production and stage management of all concert presentations at the Walt Disney Concert Hall and Hollywood Bowl. Please note this is a stage manager position, however also includes significant administrative support and production assistant responsibilities.
Position Elements:
• Functioning within a department of production managers and stage managers, coordinate the staging of all LAPA produced events at WDCH and the Hollywood Bowl.
• Share in stage management duties for rehearsals and concerts at Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Hollywood Bowl with the Associate Production Director, and Stage Manager
• As stage manager, call all production and show-related cues, and communicate all show-related information such as timing sheets, audience late seating breaks, intermission lengths, etc.
• Participate in supervising the IATSE stage crew at Walt Disney Concert Hall and Hollywood Bowl to insure professional productions.
• Work with Associate Production Director, Production Manager(s) and Stage Manager(s) to compile, create and distribute schedules and information for stage crew
• In collaboration with in-house event producers, advance productions as directed and necessary, including classical and presentations (jazz, world, pop, rock, songbook)
• Review and prepare weekly IATSE stage crew payroll for approval by Associate Production Director
• Review and route invoices to be paid in a timely manner, for approval by Associate Production Director
• Organize crew meals; create and distribute meal tickets
• Assist in coordinating production elements for events in ancillary spaces as necessary
• Distribute backstage credentials as necessary
• Work with Associate Production Director, Production Manager(s) and Stage Manager(s) to document stage set-ups, production notes and information for Archives
• Other production duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
• College degree or equivalent work experience, major in Theater Arts with technical specialization a plus.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant previous professional work experience.
• Experience working with union contracts.
• Experience with payroll and budgeting.
• Technical knowledge of performance venues.
• Ability to read music
• General knowledge of artists and repertoire.
• Regular and reliable attendance
• Excellent organizational skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and proven track record of attention to detail and responsiveness
• Willing to evenings and weekends
• Excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint; CAD and Vectorworks a plus.
• Ability to:
• Deal tactfully at all levels
• Remain calm under pressure
• Focus on many projects simultaneously and to meet deadlines
• Thrive in a fast-paced environment with high volume of work
• Work effectively in a highly collaborative and communicative team environment
