Baseball Operations Quantitative Analysis (Analytics) Internship Posting
Description:
The Los Angeles Angels are looking to hire a Quantitative Analysis Intern for the 2017 season. This is a compensated position that will provide exposure to multiple departments within baseball operations.
Internship Requirements:
- Full-time availability from March 2017 through October 2017
- A flexible schedule and the willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Educational background in mathematics, engineering, computer science, and/or a related field
- Familiarity with at least one technical computing language (Python, MATLAB, R, etc.)
Characteristics of strong intern candidates may also include:
- Creativity, open-mindedness, and strong attention to detail
- Familiarity with baseball datasets (PITCHf/x, etc.)
- Experience with SQL
- Experience conducting baseball research
- Ability to remain organized and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with core Microsoft Office programs
- Ability to evaluate players from a scouting and/or statistical standpoint
Examples of internship responsibilities include (but are not limited to) assisting with:
- Statistical modeling of baseball information and processes
- Database design, maintenance, and custom querying to support quantitative analyses
- Routine evaluation of database for integrity including troubleshooting and flaw reporting
- Ad hoc player and team evaluation to support baseball operations tasks
- Staying current in public baseball research and analysis trends
- Other duties as identified by the Director, Quantitative Analysis
