Chief of Public Relations and Media Strategy
The Chief of Public Relations and Media Strategy is responsible for the direction and leadership of the organization's overall Public Relations' strategy and messaging for all institutional initiatives, programs and performances. We are seeking a big picture, thoughtful and highly strategic thinker and implementer who will work collaboratively with Lincoln Center's President and its senior leadership to initiate strategies that will broaden the impact of LCPA's programs, events, and initiatives. In addition, he/she will lead and drive all publicity efforts with regards to the planning and renovation of David Geffen Hall. In this role, he/she will work closely with the New York Philharmonic's leadership team to develop mutually advantageous media campaigns. This position reports to the Senior Vice President, Brand and Marketing.
Specific responsibilities include:
• Develop opportunistic and creative big picture media ideas, plans and concepts for specific series, institutional programs, as well as the renovation of David Geffen Hall. Regularly interact with senior leadership at LCPA as well as the New York Philharmonic to convey, discuss and persuasively influence media strategy.
• Serve as the go-to and leader of crisis management issues that arise, tactfully and expeditiously providing both direction and resolution.
• Define, develop and oversee LCPA's overall media strategy concerning our events, initiatives and programs, the planning and redevelopment of David Geffen Hall and the institution as a whole, working closely and collaboratively with the marketing/digital teams as well as the New York Philharmonic regarding the media strategy for said planning and renovation.
• Lead and direct all efforts regarding press management of developments regarding David Geffen Hall, judiciously regulating and managing information and updates.
• Develop a strategy regarding a thoughtful and insightful profile presentation for the President of LCPA, working closely with him, and ensuring a successful institutional positioning, placement and presence of key information in the media.
• Direct and oversee communications initiatives regarding all executive and special announcements, proactively preparing executives for media interactions, internal communication and public appearances.
• Transform important information and knowledge into compelling, exciting and useful messages. Strategically communicate and disseminate said information to the appropriate audiences through the best and most effective distribution channels.
• Oversee the strategic placement of stories, photographs, videos and other items of importance and interest about Lincoln Center in the print, television, radio and electronic media. Proactively coordinate with Marketing on social media strategy.
• Direct and manage Public Relations' staff towards creating impactful media and special events within budgetary restrictions.
• Work with the different Public Relations' teams across the Lincoln Center campus to - where appropriate - coordinate joint media programs.
• Proactively cultivate relevant media industry and in-house contacts.
Required Qualifications:
• Ten years or more of high-level and strategic experience in communications and media strategy within the arts, entertainment industry and/or not-for-profit sector; or, extensive experience working in an industry or institution that presents similar complexities and challenges.
• Highly collaborative style; a strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently; results-oriented with a successful track record in directing and executing media campaigns across all channels, including digital.
• Significant knowledge of the performing arts.
• High energy, maturity, and exceptional leadership skills with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels.
• Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, staff, board members, donors and other supporters.
• Strong relationship builder with the flexibility and finesse to ''manage by influence.''
• Superb writing and verbal communication skills.
• Experience in managing a team is strongly preferred.
• Proven track record with news and event-oriented media, highly desirable.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment is essential.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
