Synopsis:
“Playing it Straight”, is a dramedy about a college sophomore Kathy, and her obsession with Jimmy, the stunning “Greek God” that sits next to her in English 1. With an irresistible plot, ''Playing It Straight'' promises intense laughs and cries while maintaining suspenseful twists. The film aims to spearhead values such as anti-bullying, acceptance and tolerance.
Character Descriptions
Kathy – An adorable, dorky and shy 19-year-old with an obsession, Jimmy. Despite how dumb she acts when jimmy is around, she is very mature for her age. She takes care of her alcoholic father.
Jimmy – Very attractive well built 19-year-old male. He is a closet gay. He struggles to come to terms with his homosexuality. He is afraid of what people think of him, especially his conservative catholic parent. He will do ANYTHING to hide his big secret.
Diane – Average looking college sophomore. Diane is Kathy’s witty, bitchy best friend. Ostensibly she is selfish and only cares about her life ambitions; she hopes to be a successful editor at a huge magazine one-day. However buried underneath all that bravado is a pure and good heart.
Amanda – (college sophomore) Queen B. She comes from wealthy family and makes everyone in her sorority worship her. Though she has a hot body, she has an unattractive face. Amanda is dating Jimmy.
Michelle – (19 year old) 300 pounds girl that seems really “weird” and “stupid”. However she has much more depth to her.
Professor Rob - 50-year-old pretentious hippie college professor.
Danny – Danny is an insecure bully and is 20-year-old chubby soccer player. He resents Jimmy.
Cameron – Danny’s sidekick.
Chris – Diane’s brother, attractive college senior.
Lorianne – Nosey college gossip. Always wants to know what’s happening, when, how and why.
Jamie –55+ year-old. Thin and stylish. Jimmy’s mother. Uptight catholic
Jamerson – 55+ year-old successful business man. Jimmy’s father. More passive, but listens to everything his wife says.
Sean – 50+ year-old Kathy’s Dad, alcoholic.
