JOB TITLE: Producer
DEPARTMENT: News
REPORTS TO: Morning Executive Producer
GENERAL SUMMARY
News Producer is knowledgeable about all aspects of the content gathering, production and delivery process. Candidate must have a rock-solid foundation of sound journalistic practices. Producer must be able to manage people and news gathering processes in a dynamic news environment that is constantly changing. Exceptional organizational skills in addition to the ability to remain calm under pressure are a must.
Position requires excellent writing and editing abilities, both for accuracy and speed. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) ordering graphics and pre-production, creating in-studio presentation segments, writing and editing stories and coordinating satellite and microwave liveshots. Must have good interpersonal communications skills, working closely with anchors, reporters, photographers, assignment editors and managers. '
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
• Creating, writing and editing complete and accurate news stories.
• Produce a live newscast from the booth, orchestrating all live and taped elements.
• Communicate with field crews on editorial and technical elements of live reports.
• Compile a live newscast rundown and coordinate with directors on its execution.
• Attend editorial meetings and bring stories that can be executed.
• Lead post-production discussion, evaluating newscast performance.
EDUCATION
• College degree required, with emphasis in journalism preferred.
• Prefer 3 years+ experience in television news production.
• Candidates may be considered if otherwise experienced in broadcast journalism.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Command of English, both verbal and written.
• Strong and accurate writing skills.
• Good oral communication & organizational skills.
• Up-to-date on daily news and current affairs.
• Detail oriented and able to follow directions.
• Can perform duties and make independent decisions under extreme pressure.
• Must be able to interact positively and productively with colleagues and outside sources.
