CW39/NewFix, a highly unique and innovative news operation, is looking for a leader to guide our creative assignment desk. NewsFix breaks the mold of traditional newscasts by telling stories with a presentation like none other and the NewsFix Assignments Desk Manager must be a consummate communicator, with the boldness to think outside the box in story assignments and personnel management. We're looking for someone who will consistently enterprise compelling stories, effectively monitor breaking news and develop contacts in the community.
Our Assignments Desk Manager will oversee a staff that seeks stories beyond press releases with appeal to our on-air and digital audiences. Our ideal candidate will navigate the balance between demands of breaking news and the free-flow of enterprise newsgathering along with a strong knowledge of trending online news with the ability to generate a diverse range of story ideas and follow up on all assigned coverage for all newscasts.
This position oversees needs for NewsFix and our morning newscast, Eye Opener. Each member of our desk is responsible for content creation, digital support and is fluent with story dissemination on social media. Only candidates who have proven excellence on successful assignment desks will be considered for this position.
The person in this position works closely with other newsroom management, newscast and digital producers, MMJ's and photographers under the supervision of the managing editor. Strong communication, organizational and time management skills are a must. Minimum of three years on a news assignment desk is required, and working knowledge of Houston and Texas is preferred.
Requirements:
• Excellent verbal/written communication skills, strong organizational abilities, and a collaborative work ethic.
• Solid leadership and effective management skillswith the ability to cultivate and present creative ideas fpor daily execution.
• Excellent news judgment and instinct of what's trending to get ahead of a story or topic and knowledge of what's buzzing on social media so you can run with it, post it, and share it.
• Experience with ENPS, iNews, or other newsroom production software.
This position requires a flexible schedule including; early morning, weekday, nights and/or weekend shifts.
