Position Overview
Market Enginuity is seeking an experienced sales manager to lead our sales team at KCRW in Santa Monica, California. The sales manager will be responsible for leading a team of account executives and an events and arts partnership coordinator. You will direct the sale of broadcast sponsorship messages, digital media and events. This is a hands-on management role where you will train and motivate a sales staff to develop new business while growing and maintaining current business. High-level personal sales are involved and you will be spending time on organizing and focusing the sales effort in a dynamic and complex media environment.
Summary of Corporate Sponsorship Sales Management
Daily life for a sales manager in public radio is similar to that of a sales manager in commercial broadcasting or local print media. You will coach the sales team on making cold-calls to decision makers at local and regional businesses, meeting with clients to understand their marketing needs and developing proposals that offer marketing solutions to help them grow their businesses. This is a full life cycle sales process in that the account executives will prospect, conduct needs assessments, create and present proposals, close the deal, write copy and service the account. Your role is to make this happen effectively and efficiently all while maintaining a strategic partnership with station management and effectively utilizing the Market Enginuity corporate team and resources. Working with key stakeholders at KCRW and within the Market Enginuity structure in order to bring multi-platform sales to fruition is critical.
Requirements
KCRW creates and curates a unique mix of content centered around music discovery, NPR news, cultural exploration and informed public affairs. KCRW is driven by the spirit of Los Angeles and delivers in innovative ways -- on the radio, digitally and in person -- to diverse, curious communities around the corner and around the world. A community service of Santa Monica College, KCRW can be found on the air in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Mojave, Palm Springs, and via five KCRW-developed smartphone apps and online. To represent this award winning station and effectively lead the sales team and coordinator this position requires:
• 3+ years of sales management experience in the media industry, significant experience selling digital media is preferred
• Ability to value media assets and pull products together in a meaningful way
• Strong people/team management skills
• Ability to hold people accountable
• Demonstrated experience in maintaining a positive and cohesive work environment
• Excellent professional written and verbal communication skills including polished and persuasive presentation skills
• Extremely organized and detailed with strong sense of professionalism.
• Systems/Process driven with the ability to evaluate a situation, develop a plan and execute it flawlessly
• Ability to manage time, prioritize effectively and be goal oriented
• Advanced technology skills: MS Office, Marketron, Salesforce
• 4 year college degree; related field is preferred
