POSITION SUMMARY
The Publicist is responsible for working alongside the Executive Director and VP of Communications to liaise with key constituents throughout the organization to identify key projects and initiatives; create compelling messaging; and execute publicity campaigns, with heavy emphasis on media outreach and digital marketing of key content. This role also has additional responsibilities that support advertising and promotion as well as key events including the weekly KCET Cinema Series, which shows that best of Hollywood, Independent and Festival films prior to their in-theatre release followed by a Q&A with the film's talent.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
Reporting and Analysis
· Creatively pitch various KCET and Link TV television series, company events and online initiatives to media outlets
· Ensure public views the organization favorably
· Ensures media receives timely and accurate materials and messages tied to strategies and campaigns
· Exercises superior judgment and caution when posting on social media platforms tied to company initiatives
· Works with Exec. Director to create and launch press releases and marketing campaigns
· Works with Exec. Director to develop internal communications and external media relations strategies.
· Provides timely reporting to Exec. Director on active campaigns
Administration
· Planning, developing and implementing PR strategies
· Liaising with colleagues from other station/network departments and key spokespeople
· Managing/facilitating cross-promotional opps with partners that currently include Heal
The Bay, American Cinematheque, LA Times, Getty Museum
· Liaising with and answering inquiries from media, individuals and other organizations, often via telephone and email
· Researching, writing and distributing press releases to targeted media
· Working with publicity team to assemble and analyze media coverage
· Devising and coordinating photo opportunities
· Organizing media events including press conferences, exhibitions and press tours
· Maintaining and updating information on the organization's press website
· Managing and updating information and engaging with social media team to strategize messaging and timing with platforms including Instagram, Twitter and Facebook
· Sourcing and managing executive speaking and sponsorship opportunities
· Fostering community relations through events and through partnerships in community initiatives
Compliance
· In collaboration with Exec. Director, Communications, ensures appropriate messaging that supports the brand
· Confers with Exec. Director, Communications on all strategic decisions
Other
· Under the guidance of the Legal department, develops campaigns in accordance with state, local, and federal regulations
· Performs any other duties, as requested or required
Position Requirements
· Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism and/or related discipline
· Three to five years of progressive experience in television and digital marketing and publicity, both on-air and online
· Must have a proven track record of strong communications skills, and innovative ideas that have resulted in increased audiences on all multi-media platforms.
· Must be highly knowledgeable in digital, on-air and social media cross-marketing.
· Must be an enthusiastic and positive team player
· Must have the ability to write clearly and concisely.
· Must have ability to work under deadline pressure at fast pace and interact well with staff.
· Must have an energetic, enthusiastic, positive attitude and self-motivation extremely important.
