JOB SUMMARY
Working under the direction of the Managing Editor, Food and Living, this temporary position will coordinate and execute posting of content across the vertical, as well as, all associated social media, and will contribute a weekly column. The Living Section Assistant Editor position also includes scouting for new on-camera talent and developing new content ideas in conjunction with other verticals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
The successful candidate must have the demonstrated ability to:
Compile and program the weekly newsletter. Write a regular column in the food, travel, wanderer or home/garden sections. Write headlines and promotional copy and copy edits freelancer posts prior to publishing. Develop and maintain a consistent social media voice, and maintain an engaged and useful presence across all platforms. Perform all functions related to CMS publishing. Keep abreast of new trends and talent in the food, home/garden and in-state travel areas, presenting them regularly to the editorial staff.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
• Demonstrated experience with web content management platforms Fluency in the language of lifestyle journalism Superior knowledge of social media trends and tools beyond Facebook and Twitter Proven interest in the food, travel, or home/garden genres.
• Some experience in an office setting
• Demonstrated experience with interviews and reporting
• Demonstrated experience with copy editing
• Demonstrated knowledge of journalism best practices
• Excellent writing, editing and researching skills
• Knowledge of Photoshop and HTML
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to multi-task with accuracy and to meet deadlines
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Must be a self-starter, proactive, highly motivated and goal-oriented
PREFERRED
• Bachelor's degree in a related field such as in journalism, mass communications, etc.
COMPENSATION
Commensurate with demonstrated skills and experience.
