Director of Programming Strategy
The Director of Programming Strategy is responsible for audience and engagement growth across all of our owned and operated brands through programming, publishing, and community development. The Director of Programming Strategy manages distribution platform relationships, provides sponsorship sales support, and builds strategy for monetizing superfans via merch, paid subscriptions, apps, and other revenue streams.
Team: Publishing and Programming
Reports to: VP, Publishing and Programming
Relationships: The Director of Programming Strategy manages the 8-person Audience Development team with 4 direct reports, represents the team when interfacing with Analytics, Product, Engineering, Marketing, Sales, and Licensing, and collaborates with the Publishing Operations Manager, Production Manager, and Director of Digital Development on hitting department-wide goals.
Key responsibilities:
• Manage day-to-day operations of owned and operated brand teams
• Maintain strategic and editorial oversight of programming calendars encompassing over 450 pieces of content per month, constantly evaluating to identify opportunities for improvement
• Work with Sales team to develop content sponsorship opportunities
• Build out superfan monetization programs and work with Audience Development team to execute
• Be the trusted resource for all best practices across publishing platforms
• Manage each distribution channel relationship, optimizing programming slates based on product and algorithm changes, platform level insights, and new revenue opportunities
• Supervise 4 brand leads, offering strategic direction on viewership and audience growth, managerial mentorship, and career development
• Build programming strategies and launch plans for new brands and platforms
Required Skills and Experience:
• 6+ years in digital video publishing, programming, and channel management, 3+ years managing a team
• Experience with paid subscription, branded apps, and merch programs
• Proven track record of audience growth
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced start-up environment
• Must be a team-oriented professional with excellent project management skills
• YouTube Certification in Audience Growth a plus
• Content sponsorship development and execution
