Full Time Job
We are seeking a senior software engineer to lead the ongoing management of JibJab's physical, cloud and IT environments. This position will be both hands-on and responsible for managing a small team of system administrator / DevOps personnel. Candidates should be able to understand and work with our existing architecture and help drive future architecture planning and implementation.
We are migrating some systems from a traditional hosting environment to Amazon AWS. Candidates need to be comfortable with both traditional hosting and AWS, understanding that in the long term, the focus of this position will be on AWS.
We seek a pragmatist. We value architectural simplicity and ease of management over sophistication. Put bluntly, we want someone who prefers to use established, simple, and reliable tools and processes. We've been around for a decade and we're in this for the long haul.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Management of hardware/software in the traditional hosting environment.
• Management of Production, Testing, and Integration server environments within AWS and assistance in execution of software deployments to Testing and Production environments.
• Lead consolidation and transition efforts as we migrate from traditional hosting environment to AWS.
• Active participation in capacity planning, security monitoring, system monitoring and maintenance, incident resolution, system architecture, tools, and process.
• Some participation in management of our office network (e.g., in management of the VPN tunnel), although desktop support is handled separately.
• Identifying processes that need to be automated and development of tools to build, maintain, and monitor systems and improve our platform.
• Identifying and improving security and performance of our systems.
• Creation of documentation, processes, and standards that are easy to understand and reproducible by others.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• 2+ years of experience in IT infrastructure services or related field.
• 2+ years Linux Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL and Solaris systems experience.
• An in-depth knowledge of Linux fundamentals, including networking, file systems, security, and the kernel.
• Extensive experience managing and maintaining web applications and services. Good understanding of the fundamentals such as web servers, application servers, database servers, HTTP, TLS, caching, CDNs, and the like. Some experience with JSON, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and back-end languages is beneficial.
• Experience managing database servers such as Postgres or MySQL.
• Experience with traditional (colocated hardware) hosting environments, including SAN/NAS, virtualization (VMWare, Hyper-V, etc.), load balancers.
• Experience with Amazon AWS. Coverage of the basics such as EC2 instances, elastic load balancers, auto-scaling groups, RDS, caching servers, S3, CloudFront. Some experience with minor services such as SQS is beneficial.
• Experience with networking. Coverage of TCP, DNS, DHCP, basic routing, VLANs, VPNs.
• Some experience with monitoring and trending systems, e.g. Nagios, MRTG, NRPE is beneficial.
• Some experience with scripting and automation in bash, Perl, Ruby and/or Python is beneficial.
• Some experience with multi-zone or multiple data center architectures for either load balancing or disaster recovery/business continuity is beneficial.
• Some experience with DevOps concepts and tools (e.g., for continuous integration and continuous deployment) is beneficial.
• Some experience with system administration automation frameworks such as Ansible is beneficial.
We are located in the heart of Silicon Beach. Candidates must be available to work onsite in our Marina del Rey office. JibJab does not provide relocation assistance.
