JibJab Bros Studios is looking for a talented, motivated and self-sufficient CG Technical Director to help in the production of the second season of a cutting edge 22-minute television show. The show merges together 3D character animation with live action, stop motion and 2D animation. This is not an Artistic role, but rather focuses on the technical needs of the show and maintaining a functioning environment where artists can focus on performance without technical hindrance. The CG Technical Director is responsible for ensuring the production pipeline works efficiently and correctly, and may occasionally need to light and composite.
Candidates should be knowledgeable in various areas of CG production including modeling, rigging, and lighting. Candidates must have at least 5 years of professional experience in a CG production environment. They must be organized, structured thinkers but also able to adapt to different workflows depending on the needs of the show. Turn-around times are quick but we never sacrifice quality for speed.
Responsibilities:
- Identify, define, prioritize, and implement specific creative production workflow processes which will enhance the production's creative tools
- Set up a V-Ray pipeline for lighting character rigs that can be used by lighting artists
- Troubleshoot and resolve any software, hardware, or pipeline issues that arise in a timely manner
- Research current technology trends and tools (including hardware and software)
- Oversee and conduct training of new CG team members, and provide mentorship to existing team members
- Set up and maintain a render farm
- Optimize render times
- Work collaboratively with other departments, including Technology
- Light and composite as necessary
- Other duties as assigned
Experience:
- At least 5 years of professional experience in CG production
- Knowledge of advanced CG texturing, lighting, shading, effects, modeling, rendering, animation, and rigging
- Knowledge of scripting in Python and MEL
- Expert level Maya knowledge
- Expert in general compositing principles (Nuke)
- Good working knowledge of V-Ray, Nuke, After Effects, Deadline
- Experience with Shotgun is a huge plus
- Experience working in Television pipelines is a plus
- Ability to hit tight deadlines while juggling many tasks
- Strong aesthetic sensibility
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise between departments
- Extreme attention to detail and ability to QA own work
- Comfortable in a fast paced, high-pressure environment that is constantly changing
