Title: Established Director seeks talented Producer for socially conscious short film
Seeking a talented and passionate Producer for socially conscious short film, EATING WHILE BLACK. Project is partially funded and aims to shoot in Los Angeles in 2014. Ideal candidate is a self-starter with experience working on smaller scale shoots with professional crew. Position is unpaid, but a small stipend may be negotiable. In addition Director is established in both film and commercials, so strong possibility of subsequent paid work for the right collaborator.
Brief summary:
EATING WHILE BLACK is a dark comedy about two African-American girlfriends who go out to dinner to celebrate. When the unflinching, straight-talking Veronica, and the diplomatic, laid-back Sheila can't get the same service as the other restaurant patrons, they clash over the most effective approach to getting served. EWB explores the conflict we all face between wanting to keep the peace and wanting to speak up and make a scene when we experience a personal or social injustice.
Bios:
Peter Sestina (Director) is an award-winning writer, director, and producer. His work has been featured in The New York Times, Creativity, and Variety. His debut short film, SHINER, screened at multiple Academy Award qualifying film festivals, and his latest project, RUN FAST, is a Sundance hopeful that stars Robert Forster and is executive produced by Academy Award winner Alexander Payne.
Jameelah Nuriddin (Actress) is a native of Atlanta, Georgia and began acting in films in her early teens, playing opposite such notable actors as Don Cheadle, Cicely Tyson, and Kimberly Elise. Over the course of her professional and college career, Jameelah appeared in over 18 TV spots and films, and performed in over 24 theatrical productions for the stage including: the Warner Bros. Feature film ATL, The REDCAT Theatre's Cut, and most recently starred in the Off-Broadway run of Innocent Flesh.
Annika P. Smith (Writer) is a graduate of USC's competitive Cinema & Writing Program. A Jamaican-born writer/performer, she has worked on national commercials, film and series television. Her writing style has been described as biting, playful, universal, heartbreaking, and sometimes romantic. Her humor explores the ways that class, sex, and race effect our everyday lives and the unspoken social contracts we make and break with one another.
Description of Imaginese Productions: Imaginese began with a question: what is your creative dream? The goal became to ask this to the most passionate and talented artists in Los Angeles. Once the question was answered something troubling was found. Many people were placing their dreams in the hands of others, many were putting off their dreams until they had the money or the time, or someone gave them permission. It is in the face of this sentiment that Imaginese exists; to give artists the autonomy to create their passion projects and live their dreams became the driving force behind Imaginese. This has yielded a dozen cabaret events, theater festivals, multiple short & feature films, and ongoing youth mentorship and arts classes. We hope to spread this message of self actualized creation to all artists and non.
Looking to hold interviews in Mid City LA on Wednesday 9/10.
