This position is responsible for working closely with the Director of Entertainment & Special Events to set the strategic direction for the Hersheypark Entertainment Department, including developing new entertainment and special event offerings and creating new initiatives for the Hershey's Product Characters that will elevate their exposure and availability to our guests. This role is responsible for managing the employees who directly supervise the day-to-day operations of the department, and will assist the Director with budgeting and with the planning and execution of shoulder season decorating.
Job Functions:
•Direct the management of the daily operations of the Entertainment Department. Responsibilities include:
•Manage the Manager, Stage Shows & Characters and the Manager, Streetmosphere & Technical Services, to include goal setting, regular one-on-one meetings, professional development, and annual performance reviews.
•Lead the budgeting process for part-time and seasonal labor and for show production, including costumes, scenic, props, etc.
•Ensure that departmental policies, such as those for employee uniforms, heat sets, and performer days off requests are regularly reviewed and updated as needed, and that these policies are being followed.
•Serve as the key liaison between the department and our production company partners during show creation and development, keeping in mind the Hersheypark brand and audience at all times. Lead the Hersheypark Entertainment team through the process, including gathering, understanding, and communicating the feedback of all concerned parties on concepts, script writing, the creation of production timelines, costumes, scenery, and choreography. Attend all show workshops.
•Set all show schedule dates and performance times in accordance with data regarding audience demand, traffic flow within the Park, the operational needs of each production, and the need to provide entertainment throughout the course of each operating day.
•Ensure that updated show times and dates are displaying correctly on the mobile app at all times. Proof maps, websites, and other promotional vehicles to ensure accuracy of information.
•Regularly attend and evaluate resident show performances to ensure that quality and guest satisfaction is being maintained.
•Create the monthly departmental MOD schedule.
•Collaborate with the Director of Entertainment to determine the strategic direction for the Hersheypark Entertainment Department, including developing new entertainment and special event offerings. Responsibilities include:
•Work with colleagues in the Marketing Department to conduct audience research activities with current and potential guests, and use the findings to evaluate current Hersheypark Entertainment offerings and identify potential future new products.
•Create new initiatives for the Hershey's Product Characters that will elevate their exposure and availability to our guests. Utilize divisional and departmental strategic plans to identify upcoming opportunities, conduct market research, to benchmark character entertainment and identify gaps and opportunities within our own offerings.
•Gather all price quotes for construction, costumes, labor, and other related expenses for any potential new character experiences.
•Effectively communicate all new character initiatives to departmental employees.
•Work with the Entertainment Director with the planning and execution of decorating for Hersheypark shoulder season operations.
•Provide operational support including but not limited to: working opening and closing rounds on duty for the Entertainment Department. serve as Manager on Duty for Hersheypark, serve on divisional and corporate committees as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
•Minimum of 5 years of related experience with live show entertainment within Amusement/Theme Parks, Cruise Lines, Theatre Production Companies or relative field.
•Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience
•Bachelor's Degree in Theatre, Music Performance, Business Administration. Relevant work experience can be substituted for education - A total of 7 years required without a degree.
•Must have a valid Drivers' License
Additional Qualifications:
•Industry experience in Amusement/Theme Parks, Cruise Lines, Theatre Production Companies is highly preferable.
•Knowledge of or experience with live show technologies a plus.
•Event planning experience a plus
•Must possess advanced communication and interpersonal skills and an approachable personality.
•Must be able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.
