Harlequin is seeking a creative, ambitious, and ultra-organized Publicist to join their fast growing and dynamic publicity department. Candidate will be responsible for creating and executing publicity campaigns for a diverse list of bestselling commercial literary, contemporary fiction and lifestyle nonfiction authors and titles by successfully leveraging traditional and digital media outlets across our imprints.
Qualified candidate must be detail oriented, have a successful track record in publicizing both fiction and nonfiction titles, comfortable working with authors and responsible. Applicant must also be knowledgeable of consumer and trade media with established relationships with both national and local media, as well as being web and social-media savvy. Candidates must be team-oriented with a positive attitude.
Other responsibilities include:
• Pitching and securing top national and local media, including print, television, radio and radio outlets.
• Creating press materials (i.e. press releases, pitch letters, and author Q&As).
• Developing creative pitch angles and targeted media lists.
• Developing and maintaining relationships with existing authors, media, booksellers, and marketplace/industry contacts.
• Assembling all logistics for author appearances at book festivals, regional trade shows, and multi-city book tours, including coordinating book signings, securing media and arranging travel.
• Working closely and communicating effectively internally across all departments including marketing, sales and editors.
Skills and Experience Required:
• Minimum 3-4 years prior publicity experience; non-fiction and fiction experience preferred
• Have strong national trade and consumer media contacts
• Demonstrate a creative, innovative, and resourceful approach to publicity
• Must-haves are: excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational skills and ability to prioritize, multitask, meet deadlines, and follow-up
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Publicity Assistant, and Cision Media Source
Education requirement: BA or BS in public relations, communication, journalism, or related field.
