Business Unit Summary
You will have the unique opportunity of being a part of a live, 24/7, studio environment and will gain insight to the Visual Production Department and gain better understanding of how each area of Scenic, Lighting and Set Styling plays a part in the overall vision of the programming. The On Call Scenic Carpenter works with either the Scenic Lead or the Master Carpenter- Scene Shop and members of their respective teams to bring scenery from the design phase through to the finished product that is ready for air.
A Day in the Life
- In addition, you will work within a team to assemble, store, load-in, strike and maintain scenery and props used for the live broadcast.
- Transport sets and props between broadcasting site and off site storage location
- Stage and return sets in accordance with the schedule
- Works independently or with other team members in the building and construction, painting, and finishing of set elements, scenery, and props
- Performs routine maintenance and repair of sets and props
- Repairs damaged props/scenery on a daily basis (example, painting walls).
- Maintains the integrity of all set designs by ensuring the set is consistent with each airing and visually ready

Must Haves
- 3 years previous carpentry experience and/or scenery experience required
- Ability to operate a sit down counterbalanced lift truck and motorized pallet jack or willingness to be trained
- Working knowledge of Vector works is helpful
- Valid Drivers License
- Able to drive 24' box truck with a manual or standard transmission
- Lifting, pulling, and pushing items over 50 lbs
- Climbing ladders
- Packaging/un-packaging items
- Standing for extended periods of time
- Use of hands or fingers to handle/feel objects, tools, or controls
- Reach with arms
- Balance, kneel, crouch, and crawl
Nice to Haves
- An undergraduate degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of training or experience
- Basic knowledge of studio equipment including sets, props, cameras, and lighting equipment
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of Word and Outlook
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Must be able to comprehend, read, learn, and understand instruction both written and oral
- Detail oriented
- Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
