Key responsibilities
This attorney will be the lead “commercial” (transactional) lawyer supporting Global Eagle’s Media & Content segment, which operates globally and across markets and media (music, film, gaming, advertising and technology) platforms, and will be dedicated to that segment. By necessity, a strong and close working relationship will exist between the attorney and personnel across Global Eagle’s US and international offices.
Specific responsibilities will include:
• Establishing and maintaining legal process improvements and best practices insofar as Media & Content business, including IP rights management, controls, standard contract forms and other templates
• Negotiating, drafting and analyzing inbound and outbound media and content licenses
• Deep understanding of legal issues around distribution, reproduction, processing, exhibition, performance and streaming of film and television programs and musical content (recordings and compositions), and advertising and games
• Negotiating and managing relationships with wide spectrum of US and foreign content providers
• Working directly with the business teams to provide advice on the implementation of strategic and tactical business plans and objectives insofar as Media & Content matters
Ideal Candidate Profile:
• A minimum of 5 to 7 years of law-firm experience in entertainment, content, media and technology licensing and transactions, or similar work experience in-house at an entertainment or technology company.
• Top academic credentials and major law firm training are required.
• Ability to lead transactions and projects, with strong analytical, interpersonal, drafting, negotiation, written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy, and the ability to balance competing priorities to meet tight deadlines
• Practical-minded business attorney who has a “can do” attitude and is a team player, enthusiastic, energetic, pro-active, responsive and service-driven
• Mobility-market (e.g., aviation, maritime, non-theatrical) experience is not required, but a plus.
• Cross-border/international licensing and distribution experience is a plus.
• Proven ability to work cross-culturally and to communicate effectively with US and overseas offices.
• Some travel possible.
