Role summary
The Director of Audio will provide overall leadership for Global Eagle’s Audio business, across all key areas of commercial, product, programming, operational delivery, rights management and reporting and financial planning and management. Music rights legal matters and license contracting will continue to be led by Global Eagle’s legal team, but the Director of Audio will be involved to provide commercial, operational and financial input.
Specifically, the Director of Audio will:
• Run the Audio business through the Audio Management Team, comprised of senior programming, commercial, operational, licensing and financial audio specialists.
• Establish best practice across locations for the current processes and technology infrastructure, applying lean production techniques to eliminate waste and improve quality based on a comprehensive set of data measurements and analytics.
• Define and help plan the transformation of the products, processes and the technology infrastructure, leveraging class-leading solution components and cloud infrastructure to reduce costs while improving quality and service levels.
• Work with the Global Eagle technology and audit functions and partners to ensure that we meet the most stringent industry standards for content security and business continuity across the supply chain between music majors and airlines.
• Recruit new talent; motivate, educate and retain the best people from the current team while managing the team size to an optimum level through automation of non “value-add” processes.
• Establish a product roadmap that helps deliver the business plan and is aligned to the technology roadmap.
This is a senior position and reports into the Managing Director of the Content Business. The role will be responsible for delivery of services to clients on a global basis, including continuous improvement, demand, capacity and resource planning, performance analysis and line management of the commercial, programming and operational staff.
The Director of Audio will also play a key role in building and strengthening key relationships with music major suppliers and airline clients to enhance and evolve the product portfolio and revenue growth opportunities
Key responsibilities
• Overall line management of the senior management within the Audio business, currently located in offices such as the US, UK, Singapore, Dubai and New Zealand
• Leadership of the Audio Management Team to drive forward planning, performance analysis and continuous improvement across the core set of activities to deliver our services to our clients
• Establish appropriate internal and external cross functional teams to manage the digital media audio supply chain, from content selection through to onboard an aircraft
• Creation of a set of standard operating procedures and policies and management to ensure these are followed
• Maintenance of a zero risk approach to audio license usage and a zero tolerance of any potential infringement of rights within the business
• Provision of support to key client facing staff to address supply performance issues or develop new business cases
• Management of headcount levels and budget
• Continually monitor overall performance across the supply chain and identify opportunities to improve performance
• Ensure efficient use of IT infrastructure, applications and data and liaise with IT to ensure continued development
• Develop the performance and quality of people in the team
• Be a key source of knowledge of key trends in the external audio market and bring the key relevant practices and knowledge into Global Eagle
• Support the Managing Director in development of new audio product propositions, commercial opportunities, operational processes and platforms to bring the existing audio business in line with market leading practices, currently seen at leading companies such as Spotify and Apple Music
Qualifications
and Skills
• Good Bachelors degree in a business, technology or operations related discipline
• 10 Years minimum in digital audio programming, commercial and operational management
• Knowledge of music licencing rights contracting and practices and implications for digital audio service providers
• Experience of operating a multi location and international business
• People management experience across different countries and cultures
• Experience of market leading practices in digital audio technical operations, media asset and metadata supply, audio playlist and programme creation, commercialisation of audiences, most likely gained from working with leading players in this field
• Track record of taking control of situations and driving change to improve performance
• A good understanding of key issues and opportunities in the IFE industry and relevant technological developments
