Glendale Arts is looking for an outstanding college junior or senior to join the Alex Theatre Marketing & Events Department as a Marketing & Events Intern during the Fall 2017 semester.
Are you interested in learning about the behind-the-scenes nuts and bolts of the life cycle of events at the venue level, from booking rental activities to working with promoters and producers to publicize shows?
Do you have an interest in and knowledge base of live entertainment, performing arts, media, current events, film, television, and special events?
Are you social media and Internet savvy and looking to apply your knowledge to running business/public pages and accounts?
Writing 101 or Advanced Writing - Where do your abilities to write in a polished manner fall?
Organization Summary
The mission of Glendale Arts is to integrate the arts into the identity, growth and economic vitality of the City of Glendale by presenting programming and creating partnerships that benefit youth, patrons, artists, organizations and businesses in the community and at the Alex Theatre.
The 1,413-seat Alex Theatre has been a Glendale landmark since 1925. The historic venue is a world-class performing arts and entertainment center and hosts a year-round season of music, dance, theatre, comedy, film, cultural performances, location shoots, and a variety of special events.
Position Summary
The Marketing & Events Intern reports to Glendale Arts' Director of Marketing & Events and will be involved in various facets of the Alex Theatre Marketing & Events Department's activities. He or she will work directly on the venue's 2017-18 season programming in both administrative and marketing capacities (contracts, social media campaigns, copywriting, and more), in addition to providing general departmental support, such as data entry and research.
The majority of the intern's time will be spent in the Glendale Arts office working in a collaborative team environment and can involve interfacing with the organization's clients, patrons, vendors and service providers, colleagues in the community, supporters, and donors.
Job Requirements and Qualifications:
The intern must have strong writing and communication skills and mindful attention to detail. He or she must also be familiar and comfortable with Microsoft Word and Excel, Internet research, and social media platforms, including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Experience with managing and/or contributing to a page for a brand, project or other applicable entity (including a personal brand or project) is a plus, but not a requirement. Familiarity and experience with FileMaker, WordPress, Constant Contact, and the Adobe Creative Suite are also preferred, but not required.
Education
This internship is ideal for students studying Communications, Marketing or related disciplines. Work experience can serve as a substitute for education focus.
Schedule
The intern should be available to work a minimum of twenty hours per week during business hours (9:00am-6:00pm) on Monday-Friday.
The intern will occasionally be asked to work evening, weekend or holiday hours.
Other
Possession of a valid California motor vehicle operator's license and proof of automobile insurance coverage is required.
