Indie Film/Doc Production Company Intern
Job Description: Gigantic Pictures, an independent film and documentary production company located in Chelsea, is looking for dedicated, fast-learners interested in both narrative and documentary films who want to obtain first-hand and practical experience in the industry.
As part of Gigantic, you will be working in a close-knit office, directly assisting producer Jason Orans and the rest of the Gigantic staff.
Though film experience is a plus, this is a particularly great opportunity for those with little to no background and film but have a great attitude, are eager to learn.
About Gigantic Pictures:
Recent projects include Margaret Brown's The Great Invisible for Participant Media, winner of the Documentary Grand Jury Prize at SXSW 2014; 99%:The Occupy Wall Street Collaborative Film (Sundance 2013, U.S. Documentary Competition) released by Pivot; and Antonino D'Ambrosio's social action documentary Let Fury Have the Hour (Tribeca 2012), released by CAVU Pictures and SnagFilms.
Other recent productions include: Night Catches Us (Sundance 2010, U.S. Narrative Competition) starring Anthony Mackie and Kerry Washington, released by Magnolia, nominated for Independent Spirit and NAACP Image Awards; Dare (Sundance 2009), starring Emmy Rossum and Rooney Mara, released by Image Entertainment; and Ramin Bahrani's Goodbye Solo (Venice 2008) released by Roadside Attractions and Lionsgate, nominated for Independent Spirit and Gotham Awards, and winner of the FIPRESCI Critics' Prize at Venice.
About our Internship:
Gigantic Pictures works with a small group of interns who we aim to equip with the practical knowledge and skills required for many entry-level film jobs as well as those that can be applied to their own work.
Each intern's experience is unique as we try, whenever possible, to focus your projects on each individual's interests, current abilities, and future aspirations. However, some of our more general tasks range from creative projects to covering phones, completing research , and helping to maintain the office and assisting in necessary runs. In addition to working alongside the heads of Gigantic Pictures, interns also support our writers, directors and film crews. We look for strong writing and analytical skills that will be employed while crafting executive summaries, letters and script coverage for our head of development. We do not believe in busy work, and give dependable self-starters charge of projects that they will have the opportunity to see from start to finish.
Our Spring internship runs from January- May , requiring the commitment of 2 to 3 days/week and is a great introduction to NYC indie film and documentary, presenting the rare opportunity to work, from Day 1, in conjunction with an experienced producing team.
