Fox 31 Denver (KDVR) / Channel 2 (KWGN) in Denver, Colorado is seeking an experienced VP of News with strong leadership, coverage, and production skills. If you're ready to lead one of the largest and best-equipped news operations in the country, then you could be the right fit for this FOX/CW combo in Denver, one of the most livable cities in America. KDVR/KWGN produces 13½ hours of news and local programming every day Monday through Friday and overall more than 71 hours of live news and local programming each week. The primary task for the VP of News will be to manage a strategic plan that is viewer-focused and based on recently completed market research. This position requires experienced management of the station's news operations, strategic goals, budgets, and staff. As a Tribune Media duopoly in the nation's 17th largest market we work with proprietary, breakthrough IP-based technology that is revolutionizing news gathering, production, and integration at all levels of our contemporary digital media platform.
Core Job Functions:
• Achieve specific goals for audience share growth, direct news and production staff, manage news gathering resources and integrate news coverage and local programming with other station operations.
• Work with News management to achieve a viewer-focused News and Local Programming content strategy.
• Manage staff, including hiring, job evaluation, training, and team building.
• Serve as a fair and inclusive leader in the newsroom offering guidance and collaboration in a team-building environment.
• Maintain day-to-day departmental budget, controlling and monitoring overtime and other costs.
• Work with news management to develop productive work schedules that best utilize all available resources.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will have strong leadership skills and experience in managing a complex news operation and have a minimum of five years' experience as a News Director or equivalent. Experience and knowledge of News Policies, FCC guidelines, research and promotional tools as they relate to news and a firm grasp of strategic news planning and positioning.
