Full Time Job
The Advertising Production & Traffic Specialist will work with many NGP departments, as well as external contacts, to produce the print editions of multiple National Geographic magazines under tight deadlines. The individual in this role will act as a liaison between advertising sales, editorial, consumer member marketing, and other NGP departments to determine the best layout for the magazine and will communicate printing instructions to the printers and traffic advertising files by working with the advertising sales department and external agencies.
Responsibilities
•
Traffic advertising material for multiple magazines (e.g., National Geographic Magazine, NG History, Traveler, NG Kids)
•
Work closely with advertising sales department and external agencies to track down ad files at issue close and verify ad material matches insertion orders
•
Closely monitor deadlines and grant extensions based on press dates, as needed
•
Communicate with agencies regarding technical problems with files based on feedback from imaging specialists in-house and at the printer
•
Ensures correct advertising material is received in a timely manner so press schedule is met
•
Manage the book makeup process for multiple titles (e.g., National Geographic Magazine, NG History, Traveler, NG Kids, NG Little Kids)
•
Communicate with advertising and editorial departments to determine a layout that meets all advertising positioning requirements and maintains editorial integrity, while being cost-effective to print
•
Create issue files in Publisher's Studio and keep master files up to date
•
Create and distribute dummies and digital maps, incorporate promotional inserts from consumer member marketing, send final production instructions to the printers, and approve ad file DBLs for positioning and accuracy prior to press
•
Create a magazine layout that meets demands of advertisers and editorial, and is cost-effective to print
•
Oversee and maintain the checking copy and advertising office copy lists for multiple titles
•
Ensure advertisers get proof of their ads running correctly and VIPs receive copies of the magazines
•
Report information regarding supplied units from in-house and external advertisers to the printers and produce various reports, such as those tracking ad/edit page counts and insert page equivalents
•
Opportunity to work on print cost analysis, budgeting, paper requirements, special units, and distribution
•
Assist manager with various duties, as assigned
Qualifications:
•
Bachelor's degree preferred
• 3 years of experience in printing and/or advertising industry
• Excellent oral and written communication.
• Interest in cost analysis and budgeting a plus
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (mainly Excel)
• Experience w/ AdShuttle and/or Publisher's Studio a plus.
• Detail-oriented, able to work on multiple projects at once, not easily frustrated, and comfortable working under tight deadlines
