Manager, Post Production (FX Networks – Los Angeles, CA 90064)
FX Networks is seeking a Manager, Post Production to oversee all original deliverables working within-house producers, outside agencies and production companies, editorial posthouses, VFX post houses, final grading post houses, industry crew and professionals. This position is responsible for managing footage post specs, delivery timelines, and budgets from preproduction to delivery and on air.
FX is the flagship general entertainment basic cable channel of FX Networks, a business unit of Fox Networks Group. FX Networks is comprised of FX, FXM and FXX, its newest channel, which debuted on September 2, 2013. Launched in June of 1994,FX is carried in more than 97 million homes. The diverse schedule features a growing roster of critically-acclaimed and award-winning hit dramas series, including Sons of Anarchy, Justified, The Americans, The Bridge, Tyrant and The Strain; the miniseries American Horror Story; the critically-acclaimed limited series Fargo; the acclaimed hit comedy series Louie and Archer; and scripted comedies Married and You're The Worst, and recently ordered The Comedians and Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll. The network's library of acquired box-office hit movies is unmatched by any ad-supported television network. FX's roster of acquired hit series includes Two and a Half Men, Anger Management and, coming in 2014, Mike & Molly.
Responsibilities
• Coordinate all post specifications, file types, footage sources, and deliverable outputs before and throughout the shoot, either while on-set or remote. From shooting formats needed for the camera, to file types needed for final grading, to the various visual effects, and editorial houses being used on a particular project. This includes shipping and tracking of all elements required.
• Manage and create all post timelines and schedules. Manage expectations and deadlines from the shoot day itself through final grading, editorial, and any visual effects needs.
• Oversee and track approved post-production budgets, and notify superiors of any changes or irregularities.
• Streamline all communications with Marketing On –Air Promotions Operations when it comes to matters of elements, file types, footage, overall scheduling, and post deadlines to ensure all Production footage is acceptable for all Departments.
• Ensure all elements are properly stored. Make sure OAP Operations has a master copy vaulted appropriately, thus ensuring any safety backups created can now be recycled for the next project. All drives and master footage properly labeled with all job information and technical specifications. Create appropriate inventories non-returnable film and short ends and store properly.
• Responsible for organizing both internal and external meetings sessions or calls with all posthouses. Schedule telecine for final grading and VFX spot reviews for the approval process.
• Develop on-going relationships with post-production companies, as well as research new companies in the creative post industry.
Qualifications:
• Four year college degree preferred. 5 years' experience in film, television or commercial production is needed.
• Experience with television and commercial post-production from concept to completion is mandatory.
• 2 -3 years' experience in a leadership or management role.
• Knowledge of production budgeting process and managing.
• Editorial experience / supervision – working in Avid bay, Final Cut, and mixing facility OR a working knowledge.
• Visual effects and color grading experience (Budget management scheduling).
• Knowledge of music licensing and contractual obligations.
• Must have excellent verbal and writing skills. Must be able to receive information and respond with clear direction and also give and receive constructive feedback.
• Must have the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines, be autonomous and decisive, and must have the ability to present and explain explorations clearly and concisely to peers and superiors.
• Ability to interact and communicate with a wide variety of personalities. Operate in sensitive and creative environments with the utmost confidentiality.
• Must be well informed on current trends in competitive advertising, design and the marketplace in order to better support one's point of view.
• Must have knowledge of production budgeting process, and the negotiations that go along with this. Must have a practical understanding of television, film, and still photographic production and post-production terminology.
• Computer word processing. Knowledge of commercial budgeting software, Point Zero, etc.
• MUST be both Mac and PC computer literate (Adobe, Photoshop, Illustrator, QuickTime, iTunes, Acrobat, Outlook, Word, Excel, etc).
• Must have working knowledge of consumer and professional budgeting software and as well as an understanding of edit and design systems, their capabilities and general functional qualities.
