Production Manager
Institutional Investor Journals are quarterly publications offering in-depth, original and practical research in global investment and finance with an extensive online archive.
Each Journal is written and edited by leading practitioners and academics and is read by finance industry professionals. Each Journal provides current analyses and strategic insights that translate into implementable ideas for global investment management professionals.
As a Production Manager, you will coordinate the production of 12 quarterly publications as well as several special issues produced throughout the year. Each journal or special issue is comprised of 6 to 15 articles depending on the publication. The content is developed for digital media as well as print. Working both independently and with a production assistant, you will see each publication through start to finish.
Responsibilities
• Hires and manages production houses, copy editors, proof readers, printers.
• Schedules and Manages a monthly work flow of 3 to 5 journal publications.
• Makes sure the trafficking of the articles from copy editing to production to proofreading keeps on schedule to meet the deadline for going to the printer.
• Works with the editors of each journal to assure the quality and source of articles for a scheduled issue is available on an online managing system for copy editors to access.
• Trains editors and copy editors on how to use the online managing systems.
• Works with the copy editors to answer style questions and makes sure they provide the production house the articles on schedule.
• Works with the production houses to ensure quality and on time delivery and is there to help them with their communications with authors.
• Works with the proofreaders to answer style questions and schedules the return of the articles to production.
• Resolves issues with copyright agreements.
• Works with the printer to fulfill printing details.
• Perform multistage quality control procedures including checking of soft proofs, F&Gs, editing, and additional value-added checking (fact checking).
• Review invoices and enters them into an online system for processing
• Conduct competitive bidding, procurement, price negotiations, and budgeting.
• Manage artwork, work orders, proofs, and change orders; obtain approvals. Accurately and quickly update all documents, departments, vendors, suppliers, and the client throughout production.
• Liaise with management, internal departments, and vendors/suppliers to troubleshoot problems and provide innovative solutions.
Job Requirements
Experience and Requirements of the Production Manager
• Experience providing production management and customer service to multiple clients.
• Proven record of working independently and efficiently on multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
• Proven ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal staff and outside partners/vendors.
• Available when necessary to work outside of normal business hours.
Skills
• Proficient use of a database system.
• Excellent proofing skills.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills.
• Knowlege of InDesign, Illustrator, PhotoShop.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills:
• Strong customer service skills.
• A working knowledge of printing methods, data processing, personalization, and web site management.
• Videography a plus.
