Full Time Job
ESPN is looking for an accomplished, senior executive with a minimum of 10 years of experience leading, managing, developing and executing corporate strategic plans within complex organizations. Experience in media and corporate strategic planning required.
This role will be pivotal in contributing to corporate strategic initiatives at ESPN and The Walt Disney Company. The VP, Corporate Strategy will work closely with Executive Vice President, Affiliate Sales and Marketing and Senior Vice President, Business Development and Corporate Strategy on short and long range business and financial planning, key business assessments and corporate strategic initiatives and projects. He/she will support mergers and acquisition planning including execution, due diligence coordination, development of strategic rationale and evaluations. He/she will collaborate and communicate with internal stakeholders at ESPN and across The Walt Disney Company, executing on critical business processes including business case development, financial model creation and cost/benefit analyses and performance measures. He/she, in concert with EVP, Affiliate Sales and Marketing and SVP, Business Development and Corporate Strategy, will identify, analyze and contribute to ESPN's enterprise-wide strategy, with particular emphasis on identifying profitable growth opportunities and planning for the evolution of the content distribution and media business.
This position is located in New York.
Responsibilities
• Evaluate competitive intelligence and consumer trends. Establish and review key strategic priorities for inclusion in short and long range planning initiatives.
• Identify, in concert with The Walt Disney Company Corporate Strategy Team, opportunities that create medium- and long-term growth, both within and outside of current business models and approaches.
• Identify and evaluate potential acquisition targets and new licensing and services opportunities.
• Collaborate and coordinate with TWDC Corporate Strategy and members of the ESPN executive team in the development of growth opportunities and strategic business line extensions.
• Collaborate with ESPN Finance and TWDC Corporate Strategy, and across ESPN and DATG executive teams, on the development, refinement and presentation of ESPN's long-term strategic vision and Long Range Plan and other financial and business planning initiatives.
• Develop, in concert with ESPN CFO, business models, processes and protocols for evaluating new business opportunities and acquisitions.
• Partner with internal ESPN and TWDC resources to support execution of key initiatives, create and lead cross departmental and enterprise teams and projects.
• Direct cross-functional teams to conduct business evaluations and assessments. Perform competitive market analyses. Identify acquisition prospects and targets.
• Create actionable business plans and identify, qualify and present strategic issues to ESPN executive and other Senior Executives across ESPN and TWDC.
• Act as a resource across ESPN and TWDC to increase broad cohesion for corporate strategic planning.
Basic Qualifications
• 10 years of extensive corporate strategy and/or business development experience, conceptualizing, establishing and building new businesses and supporting financial plans.
• Experience in management consulting, investment banking, corporate development or private equity
• Experience in leading a corporate strategy or business development team/function in a leading media, technology or other related corporation
• Excellent strategic and creative thinking, with particular emphasis on evaluating new opportunities and changing marketplace and media consumption dynamics
• High degree of quantitative and analytical experience in media or technology
• Excellent facilitation skills
• Excellent project management and work prioritization skills
• Strong ability to comprehend, structure and negotiate complex business agreements
• Superior influencing, collaboration and communication skills with the ability to interact cross-functionally at all organizational levels internally and externally with business associates and clients
• Exceptional organizational, prioritization and time management skills
• Deep understanding of the traditional media business, internet, new media and interactive platforms and the associated business models, including Direct-to-Consumer
• Must excel in a fast-paced, results-oriented work environment
