Full Time Job
We are seeking a Principal Network Architect to develop innovative solutions to bring consistency, resiliency and scale to our network infrastructure in the Data Center, Security, Peering, and Wide Area Networking applications. In this role, you will be responsible for driving the expansion of our network through planning, implementation, and through the technical leadership to the rest of the Network Engineering discipline at ESPN. You will work to define and develop tooling for configuration management and orchestration of network resource delivery to reduce time-to-market for applications. You will be expected to help develop and execute the technical roadmap for network services and cloud integrations and liaison with our internal partners (technical and business) to help maintain ESPN's leadership position.
Responsibilities
• Actively monitor and manage the network and optimize system performance
• Develop and manage companywide strategy for the maintenance, repair, and upgrade of the network.
• Ensure the technology architecture is scalable across a number of dimensions.
• Implement network security measures
• Monitor Network Performance of the systems identified above.
• Provide and manage system documentation for all related network systems.
• Assist in researching and deploying new technologies that further our technical and business goals
• Liaison with our internal partners (technical and business) and external vendors to assess technical requirements and provide solutions
• Escalated tier3/4 operations support, on-call support (rotational)
• Provide technical leadership and growth to engineering teams
• Setup and maintain network related documentation and standards.
• Work with network hardware vendors and network service vendors to build scalable network ecosystems that allow ESPN to grow its network needs as efficiently as possible.
Basic Qualifications
• Proven track record designing, implementing and delivering scalable network solutions in multiple environments – Data Center, Wide Area, Campus, and with DDoS mitigation.
• Prior experience with leading a team on network engineering and operations related projects.
• 7 years in Network Engineering/Operations supporting Ethernet and IP based networks, architectures or designs in a high paced, dynamic Service Provider environment
• Understanding of Ethernet and IP based networks and architectures in a carrier/service provider network.
• Understanding and use of routing protocols, VPNs and Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) Technical Specifications
• Includes OSPF, ISIS, BGP, RSVP, LDP
• Experience in designing and operating a MPLS based service provider network.
• Industry knowledge of Carrier Ethernet, MEF Standards and related product suites
• Ability to work constructively in teams of diverse individuals, with various ideas and methodologies
• Ability to consistently deliver a set of products that follow industry and Spectrum Enterprise Engineering standards and best practices
• Must be customer focused and service oriented
• Must have the ability to communicate to groups with various degrees of skill-sets, knowledge and experience
• Ability to manage goals, track milestones and report on status
Preferred Qualifications
Expertise in one or more of the following areas is preferred:
• Previous experience with establishing, documenting and communication of Network Designs and Architecture
• Previous experience with customer or network support in a Service Provider environment
• Working knowledge and experience with Network Planning, Design and Architecture
• Experience with Cisco, Juniper and/or Nokia network elements
• Experience in providing L2 services in a service provider network. Service provider L2 CPE experience with suppliers such as Adva, Ciena, Cisco, and RAD beneficial.Vision and desire to succeed while working with a group of diverse personnel under a corporate construct
Required Education
• High School Diploma
Preferred Education
• B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline with strong programming background, with 10 years of software development experience, including 3 years of experience in large development environments supporting multiple customers.
• M.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline with strong programming background, with 8 years of software development experience, including 3 years of experience in the areas of data mining and analytics; Or
• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline with strong programming background, with 5 year of software development experience, including specialization in data mining and analytics.
