*This is a project position with an estimated length of 18 months*
The Podcast Producer I, ESPN Films, with an emphasis on editing, will be part of a small team working to develop and execute the first run of 30 for 30 podcasts over the course of 18 months. Podcast Producer should bring a strong audio editing background and will play a large role in shaping the arc of all episodes of the series. Producer will work with our senior producers and editors to develop the series overall, but also produce/oversee several episodes from development through production and distribution.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to editing, story development, archival research, writing scripts, conducting interviews, tracking down leads, and reporting/voices if appropriate.
Responsibilities
• Develop, write, produce and report/voice podcasts, when appropriate
• Pitch, develop and research ideas that come from inside and outside ESPN
• Supervise daily production of a set number of narrative podcasts and production teams
• Identify and manage external talent to work on the series, such as producers, editors, Pas, etc
• In depth archival research
• Coordination of hosts/talent
• Write and edit scripts
• Listen to and give feedback on scripts and edits by other producers
• Work with hosts to direct scripts and reads
• Edit audio using Pro Tools or comparable software
• Book interviews, arrange travel, source archival material, coordinate with other parts of ESPN
Basic Qualifications
• 3-5 years experience working in journalism and/or storytelling projects
• Experience in finding, researching, and structuring unique stories
• Experience managing freelancers and collaborating with other producers
• Audio editing and writing skills
• Very good organization and communication skills.
• Thrives in a team setting.
• At least 1 year working in an office setting with strong computer skills.
• Great attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience producing sound-rich, narrative, audio programming.
• Experience and unique talent in hosting audio programs.
• Relationships with freelance podcast talent
• Relationships with archival vendors and leagues
Required Education
• High School diploma or equivalent
