Analysts play a hands-on role in ensuring that all sports data distributed by Stats & Analysis (S&A) is the fastest, most accurate and insightful in the world. This wide-ranging requirement includes live clock-and-score coverage, generating play-by-play and utilizing other applications. College football and college basketball are the sports of primary focus though opportunities are plentiful to work on other sports specifically as fluency in the role grows.
Employees in this role must have the skill set to work effectively individually and in a team setting, as well as the ability to work within the guidelines policies and standards in a professional environment. Meticulous attention to detail is required to produce fast and accurate information.
Stats Analysts must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, whjch are necessary to work effectively as an individual and in small and large groups while delivering real time statistics and data. Stats Analysts are responsible for having awareness of key storylines, including top players, during games and events.
Stats & Analysis, a function of the Stats & Information Group, provides live stats, scoring and data for all major professional sports and multiple collegiate sports. With a group of over 100 full-time and part-time staffers, Stats & Analysis is committed to providing fans with the most accurate and insightful data in a timely manner.
Responsibilities
• Achieve competency using a variety of S&A applications to produce live, accurate data.
• Enter data quickly and accurately and verify the results of one's own work and that of others; perform with a consistently high attention to detail.
• Provide consistent feedback to peers and managers.
• Communicate quickly and decisively with colleagues on data issues and other newsroom problems.
• Contribute to production and projects across the newsroom.
• Required to stay informed and in compliance of current department policies and procedures
Basic Qualifications
• Passionate about sports and statistics; qualified candidates have a working knowledge of players, teams and rules of the games.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Meticulous attention to detail to strive for 100% accuracy on all tasks.
• Thrive under deadlines and pressures of being in a live, active newsroom.
• Available to work at least one weeknight and Saturday and Sunday from September to April which includes nights, holidays and weekends.
• Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications including the Internet.
• A working knowledge of statistics' role in ESPN products and general awareness of all ESPN content and platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
• 1 or more years experience working with sports statistics, content and storylines, preferably in online, television or print media.
• In-depth knowledge of ESPN's Digital Media coverage of all sports and games.
• Aptitude for working with technology such as data feeds, data warehousing and custom software tools.
• Experience working in the Media Relations, Public Relations or Marketing department of a college, minor league or professional sports team.
• Experience working in a team environment.
• Knowledge of production usage of data in on-air and research applications.
• Spanish bi-lingual fluency both written and verbal.
Required Education
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
