Part Time Job
A senior researcher rigorously fact-checks The Magazine and other editorial content produced in accordance with editorial guidelines. All researchers are responsible not only for the accuracy and integrity of their own stories but assist in making sure the magazine and other editorial content are error-free. The person must be attentive to detail, able to interact with the editorial staff, creative in suggesting fixes and also be very knowledgeable of various sports.
Daily duties include assisting editors and writers in compiling clip packages, background information and supplemental facts; Fact-checking Enterprises and Investigative stories, frequently on tight deadline, and other content for Digital-Print or affiliated sites; Flagging content to ensure that the company is not exposed to libel claims or other reputation damaging events. In addition, this position requires the ability to juggle multiple assignments, often under tight deadlines, and the organizational skills to plan and execute long-term projects.
Sound decision-making, self-motivation, and independent thinking are important skills for this position, particularly when working with sources and stories that may be sensitive in nature. The senior researcher will generally be the go-to person for fact-checking stories on controversies surrounding doping, sports injuries and athletes in trouble with the law.

Responsibilities
• Supports editors and writers with research on specific topics and fact checking of assigned stories and related information
• May check the work of researchers and their research to ensure that facts included in assigned stories are accurate and appropriate
• As directed, monitors the content of stories to ensure that the company is not exposed to libel suits or other reputation damaging events
• Operates, under direct supervision, within the context of clearly defined editorial policies and procedures
• Participates in established processes that ensure the smooth flow of stories, incorporating requirements from editorial, production and technology
• Conducts or participates in conducting research on the content of assigned stories and projects
• Supports research of news and feature content of assigned stories and projects
Basic Qualifications
• An undergraduate degree in journalism, communications, online/multimedia or related field and a minimum of two years direct professional editorial and/or reporting experience.
• Facility with the Internet and knowledge of what sites are authoritative and reliable.
• Broad knowledge of all major sports, especially pro and college, including deep understanding of advanced sports metrics and statistical analysis.
• Has basic knowledge of libel law.
• Possesses intermediate Excel skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• A minimum of two years direct professional editorial and/or reporting experience.
• Facility with the Internet and knowledge of what sites are authoritative and reliable.
• Broad knowledge of all major sports, especially pro and college, including deep understanding of advanced sports metrics and statistical analysis.
• Has basic knowledge of libel law.
• Possesses intermediate Excel skills.
Required Education
• An undergraduate degree in journalism, communications, online/multimedia or related field
