Full Time Job
The Operations Manager (OM) will work alongside the Assistant Program Director (APD) in leading ESPNLA's programming department and maximizing ratings. The OM and APD will both report to the Vice President/General Manager, ESPNLA.
The OM and APD will collectively be responsible for managing all aspects of the programming department – the overall on-air product; the talent, producers, and other staff; the station's relationship with our play-by-play partners (the Los Angeles Lakers, USC, and the Los Angeles Angels); and the station's interactions with the ESPN Radio Network and the LA Production Center (TV). The OM and APD will also work closely with managers and staff in the other ESPNLA departments (Sales, Promotions, Traffic, Technology, etc.).
Responsibilities
The OM's specific job responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
• Oversight of all local sports talk programming
• Management of producers
• Scheduling of local talk talent, including substitute hosts
• Oversight of station production/imaging
• Talent development/coaching
• Talent recruitment
• Content recycling (within ESPNLA and to Bristol)
• Addition of guests to shows
• Acting as point person (along with APD) for other departments
• Ratings/competitive analyses
• Competitive monitoring
• Budget/expense management
It is anticipated that the OM and APD will work closely together as it relates to many of the above responsibilities, in addition to managing all play-by-play programming and team relationships, network programming, overall on-air scheduling, and management of other departmental personnel (e.g., play-by-play talent, board ops, reporters, digital editor, social media, etc.).
Basic Qualifications
• Strong spoken word content background
• Five (5) years minimum experience in radio talk show producing
• Experience working with high-profile talent
• Excellent communication skills
• Knowledge of ENCO, Wide Orbit or similar digital audio platforms
Preferred Qualifications
• A minimum of Two (2) years experience in programming management, including oversight of staff
• Understanding of the LA sports fan
• Experience in recruiting and developing talent
• Understanding of Nielsen/PPM audience measurement
• Experience in directing production/imaging
• Experience in managing a budget
Required Education
• College degree in a related field or Equivalent
