Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for the creative development and production of assigned sports news shows
- Accountable for the content quality, budget performance and market share of assigned sports news shows
- For assigned sports news shows, directs and coordinates the full scope of producing activities of a large full time, temporary and/or matrixed staff of producers and other professionals accountable for program development and production
- Creates new sports news show concepts; enhances the current program line-up and continuity
- Directs Producers, Associate Producers and Production Assistants in all aspects of the production of assigned sports news shows
- Directs the design and implementation of innovative graphics for assigned sports news shows
- Coordinates the schedules and facilities for the editing of sports news shows
- Tracks and reports on production schedules and budgets for assigned sports news shows
- Oversees and controls the flow of production assets for assigned sports news shows
- Directs the conduction of research on sports information to obtain materials necessary for productions
- Oversees the creation of line copy and scripts for assigned sports news shows
- Operates within the context of defined sports news show concepts, objectives and outcomes
- Oversee the planning and execution of assigned sports news shows
- Work is reviewed by the responsible Senior Coordinating Producer relative to milestones, defined financial outcomes and viewers’ behavior for assigned sports news show
- Oversees and ensures the highest journalistic standards for assigned sports news shows
- Directly and through key subordinates, sets and ensures compliance with the highest levels of professionalism in all aspects of assigned sports news shows
- Creates and adjusts the concepts and content of assigned sports news shows to reach the largest possible number of viewers and to increase market penetration, ratings and viewership and financial results
- Contributes to determining or determines the content and focus of assigned sports news shows including the stories comprising each sports news show; ensures that important emerging stories and breaking news are identified and followed-up on
- Sets and communicates the creative vision for assigned sports news shows
- Uses a high level of mastery of sports knowledge and news judgment to determine the agenda, concepts and content of each assigned sports news show
- Plans, directs and manages the creation and writing of compelling content for each assigned sports news show
- Conducts the performance review process for direct subordinates; makes input to other executives into these decisions for personnel “matrixed” into sports news; conducts the performance review process for assigned Producers, Associate Producers and Production Assistants
- Lead the development of all of the creative concepts for each assigned sports news show
Required Qualifications
- Has established expertise to create and produce compelling sports news shows
- Has strong level of ability to generate and execute sports news concepts, from inception to execution
- Has working mastery of the sports production processes and the ability to produce high level sports news shows
- Has a high level of knowledge of real-time sports production processes
- Has established knowledge regarding technological advances relative to sports news show
- Has a strong level of knowledge of what story ideas and concepts to use for sports news shows
- Has a strong level of production skills related to sports news shows
- Has a good understanding of market positioning and strategies
- Has a high level knowledge of sports and sports history
- Demonstrated management experience
- Excellent communication/interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Communications or Journalism
- Minimum 7 years of progressively complex related studio or related journalistic experience
- Ability to write and speak Spanish proficiently
