The Associate Program Manager is a part of the Digital and Print Media Product Management organization and is responsible for implementing strategic initiatives and leading cross functional/departmental projects. The Associate Program Manager's primary focus will be on supporting the ESPN Digital Consumer Product Platforms team working on projects like the redesign of ESPN's OTT apps, Audio & Video Platform improvements, new Affiliate partnerships and more.
The candidate should be able to communicate and partner across our Design, Technology, Editorial, and Product teams. He/She should have experience with planning, tracking, monitoring, reporting and proficient with the software development lifecycle. The candidate should be comfortable program managing technology-based projects and should be at ease when collaborating with a variety of resources including technical, business, and marketing resources. The resource should have experience with technology projects and knowledge of technology trends, especially in the area of video.
This candidate will lead aspects of the product management lifecycle within certain platforms, while working in conjunction with the product manager(s). This includes providing vision, direction, and oversight of assigned areas domestic and international. Looking for a detailed and driven professional that can take strategic initiatives and break them into daily tasks working hand in hand with cross-departmental teams and churn out a world class product.
Responsibilities
• Develops and maintains the program roadmap and detailed project plans for the following areas: Audio & Video Platform, Affiliate, WatchESPN International & OTT.
• Lead cross department and team collaboration.
• Direct and manage project development from initiation to closure.
• Manage scope, goals, and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with product owner and stakeholders.
• Effectively communicate project expectations to product team members in a clear fashion.
• Escalate projects risks and constraints in a timely manner.
• Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path.
• Track and report slippages with workable mitigation plans.
• Create meeting agendas, capture project meeting notes, and drive the follow up action items to completion.
• Establish and maintain project communications and collaborates with other program and project managers.
• Oversee project estimations and the development of project deliverables.
• Manage and prioritize issues and action items throughout the project lifecycle.
• Manage project quality and performance standards.
• Conduct retrospective and share lessons learnt periodically.
• Assess and manage risk over the project lifecycle.
• Track project milestones and deliverables.
• Communicate project objectives, including detail understanding of milestones, deliverables, and success criteria to leadership and various stakeholders.
• Ensure the use of best practices and applies lessons learned from previous projects.
• Lead projects using Agile and Waterfall methods.
• Co-lead JIRA board workflow and setup across the product organization.
Basic Qualifications
• Highly skilled in time management to facilitate involvement in multiple projects.
• Must have excellent leadership, team management, relationship building, and interpersonal skills.
• Flexibility to lead diverse and dynamic teams to deliver integrated solutions.
• Solid facilitation and problem solving skills and ability to focus both strategically and tactically to achieve business goals.
• Self-directed and the ability to work independently and manage communications across teams.
• Candidate should also have an entrepreneurial spirit and the flexibility to adapt as the project evolves.
• Ability to function in a matrix environment.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in managing technology products.
• 1 to 3 years of program / project management experience.
• 1 to 3 years experience leading large cross-departmental initiatives within a Media company.
• Experience in digital media industry (e.g., mobile applications, internet, video, and broadband)
• Excellent business and communication skills (written and verbal).
Required Education
• High School Diploma
Preferred Education
• PMI Certification preferred with thorough understanding of Project Management Methodologies & Techniques
• JIRA Training or 4 years JIRA experience
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
