The Associate Operator position in Production Operations and Creative and Studio Direction may include roles in audio/communications, control room operations, executing graphics using ESPN developed playout applications, and non-linear edit, studio cameras and more.
Production Operations and Creative and Studio Direction are units within the Production and Programming division of ESPN.
The Production Operations staff comprises of Network Control, Content Edit, Studio Operations, Production Control Rooms, Facility Resources and Business Operations. In addition to Operational roles, we also have specialists in Resource Project Coordination, Business Administration and more. Though we staff many traditional roles in the television industry, our work is produced and then converted into many formats for different distribution on platforms such as mobile phones, iPads, Video on Demand, .com and other digital carriers.
The Creative Services/Production Enhancements team provides first-rate service to our partners, while driving creativity, vision, and innovation. We look to inspire, create and deliver across all our areas…whether it's design, graphics, animation, editing, music, sound design, or development of new production tools for event and studio production.
ResponsibilitiesLearn and demonstrate the required levels of competence in each functional area you are assigned to.
• Demonstrate the ability to effectively operate in a professional environment.
• Learn and understand quality control steps and applicable Production Operations and Creative and Studio Direction Standard Operating Procedures.
• Operates playout applications for live studio productions.
• Participation in training programs, (physical, classroom, virtual, etc.) for self-career development and/or regarding any relevant equipment and workflow changes within the operation.
• Participate in problem solving and troubleshooting techniques and effective communication to best convey the issues necessary for resolution.
• Ensures the accuracy and timely preparation of graphics on assigned productions.
• Support for ESPN networks.
• Perform required Administrative tasks including, but not limited to, the effective utilization of all ESPN software based applications (such as time entry and travel and expense filing), as well as the daily shift reporting, malfunction of equipment reports clearly articulate source of problems and monthly accomplishment documents.
• Embrace company initiatives including town and/or departmental meetings, upward feedback performance management applications and employee surveys.
• Devotes a minimum of 8 hours of job shadowing within other areas of Creative and Studio Direction, Production Operations or ESPN
Basic Qualifications
• Fundamental knowledge of Production workflow and operating systems.
• Ability to perform tasks under tight deadlines.
• Computer experience with Microsoft office software skills.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Flexibility to alter shifts/days off to accommodate projects and departmental objectives.
Preferred Qualifications
• A minimum of 1 year of professional or previous internship experience in control room operations or related production experience.
• Basic understanding of all TV Production equipment and technology within assigned operating areas, which may include but not be limited to; server based recording/ playback devices and related software applications, character generator, master control switchers and related equipment, production switchers and/or audio boards.
• Bilingual (written and spoken) in both English and Spanish
Required Education
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Education Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Studio Production, Journalism, or related field.
