Full Time Job
The Sports and Fan Intelligence team utilizes all facets of media research (Nielsen, Adobe Analytics, etc) and primary research to inform and guide the company on how sports fandom and sport properties are performing nationwide. This role will focus specifically on the NBA, MLB, Tennis, Golf, Tennis, and the WNBA.
The role will be providing analysis and insights on how each sports property is performing throughout the season from a viewer, user and fan perspective across different platforms for different departments within ESPN, including the Programming, Production, Public Relations, Marketing, and Sales teams, as well help forecast estimates for upcoming seasons and schedule changes for the Finance and Asset Management teams.
The role will represent the Sports and Fan Intelligence team at cross-departmental strategy sessions and express a strong, thoughtful, data-based point of view based on media and consumer behavioral trends. The Associate Manager will be a naturally curious, thoughtful and creative thinker with a familiarity with media research and primary research. The individual will have a passion for understanding the sports fan and sports media landscape and be comfortable communicating these viewer and fan insights to various ESPN departments.
ResponsibilitiesThe Sports and Fan Intelligence Associate Manager would be able to execute on of each of the following functions:
• Compile, analyze, evaluate and interpret national and local TV audience viewership data by sport property for the ESPN networks as well as competitors.
• Provides analysis on ratings trends with ESPN networks and its competitors for each sport property to assist the sales, programming and strategic planning efforts of the company and provide tactical advice to internal stakeholders, as well as create forecasts the ratings performance, specifically as it relates to Asset Management and liability planning
• Participate in the collection, analysis and communication of audience data for ESPN's digital media properties for each sports property (including sporting events and studio shows that are streamed online) by utilizing Adobe Analytics and comScore.
• Provide analysis from on-going survey studies that measure fandom and attitudes regarding ESPN's coverage of different sports properties.
• Manage research analyst and help train on the basic research methods and on software necessary for pulling data across TV and Digital sports properties.
Basic QualificationsMust have 5 years familiarity and/or experience in cross-platform media research, including:
• Familiar and/or experience with analyzing national or local Nielsen data using Nielsen National TV View, Nielsen National TV Toolbox, Arianna
• Familiar and/or experience digital media research tools such as Adobe Analytics and comScore
• Understanding of disparate methodologies of digital audience measurement (panel, server, hybrid)
• Must be proficient in Windows-based PC applications such as Excel, Word and Powerpoint.
• Must have an understanding of quantitative methods such as survey development and sampling.
• Working knowledge of qualitative research methodologies.
• Some supervisory experience preferred.
• Collaborative nature and ability to work well in a team environment.Needs excellent writing skills, ability to handle multiple tasks, and display strong attention to details. Must have basic mathematical ability.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with software like SPSS and Tableau.
