Full Time Job
Project Associate Editors will be involved in the daily creation of editions of ESPN content for a unique new short-form platform. On a daily basis, they will identify content well-suited for distribution in this format, work with internal partners to create visual entry points, create supporting copy edit the final work. They must be able to write headlines and evaluate stories for accuracy, fairness and social/viral potential. Editors must be able to develop unique and compelling content that will thrive in mobile/social environments. They must have an awareness of an assortment of content types (text, video, audio, photo) in order to collaborate successfully in identifying and/or developing content for the platform.
This is a one year project role
Responsibilities
• The Associate Editor will curate and edit multiple content objects on a daily basis. These will include copy and line editing roles, managing an overall style and voice, and working with subject matter experts for specific content types.
• The Associate Editor will identify opportunities to aggregate existing ESPN content products (video, audio, photo, social, story, alert) and redeploy them.
Basic Qualifications
• 1-2 years working in a high-level media environment, creating and managing content
• Strong base of current sports knowledge, including teams, players and storylines
• Understand and follow closely the latest in social media trends across sports.
• Strong understanding and appreciation of news and story play.
• Excellent headline writing skills, an understanding of optimal tactics for social distribution.
• Create and tell stories in a fast-paced, highly competitive environment.
• Work quickly and juggle multiple varied tasks during a typical work day.
• Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• Sports takes place on nights, weekends and holidays -- and those shifts will be regular and required.
• Experience with Final Cut Pro, Avid, Edius and Premiere or similar video editing software
Required Education
• A B.S./B.A. degree in communication arts, journalism or new media or equivalent combination of education experience.
