Purpose of Role
The Manager of Product Development is responsible for oversight of all aspects of Product Development and Marketing for audio, DVD, digital, product release and marketing initiatives in the Catalog Marketing department.
Key deliverables:
Deliverable Related tasks
Product Development
• Work with A & R and Artist Management to develop long-range product plans for artist catalogs or partner in product development of an individual release
• Determine the appropriate content, packaging, format, price-point and release date for the project, based on the targeted consumer
• Develop strong consumer-based project concepts that maximize profits
• Liase with sales & finance to schedule projects
• Marketing plan development and execution for projects, series, and key artist franchises.
• Responsibility for individual project marketing spending
• Ensure necessary approvals from labels, artist management and senior EMM management on all aspects of release
• Oversee management of internal and external process and resources on design, packaging, A&R, production, advertising, publicity, radio and licensing related to each release
• Focus on Catalog Group P&L and M&P
• Continually coach and develop staff
• Use negotiation skills to persuade artist and company executives to support our business initiatives
• Work with A & R to pitch the project to sales in order to create the P & L or deal needed to move the project forward
• Manage packaging costs
• Develop solicitation materials including sell sheets, presentations, project tools and updates
• Provide project overviews for the Catalog team at Bi-weekly conference calls
Marketing Plans & Budgets
• Meet with artist management to discuss overall artist and project marketing strategy
• Coordinate media, new media, TV marketing and radio promotions departments to support release. Lead informational and brainstorming meetings with this team
• Interface with International Department on details and timing of International releases
• Develop specific media, lifestyle, print, radio, TV and retail outlets to secure promotions and increase visibility of product
• Oversee creation and implementation of video content tools with commercial and promotional video partners
• Work with in house sync department to develop overall sync strategy
• Write and execute marketing plans to drive consumers to the release
• Create and oversee marketing budgets
Other Specific Requirements:
Essential
• Bachelor's Degree in marketing, business or related field
• Minimum 7 years with music or entertainment company with at least 4 years in a lead product management or marketing manager position
• Knowledge and experience with product development process, online marketing, partnership marketing and/or promotion
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, familiarity with SoundScan
