ABC Owned Television Stations Group (OTVS) is seeking a Web Developer who will be responsible for supporting our responsive sites and providing technical solutions for requests from our stations and digital sales performance team. The successful candidate will work with a cross-functional team of Product Managers, Designers, Engineers, Editors, and Sales staff to create and manage digital experiences. We seek someone who is passionate about technology, product design, development, and news.
Our ABC Owned Television Stations Group (OTVS) is comprised of 8 television stations and a national sales division with critical reach and market leadership across major U.S. cities. Our ABC OTVS digital media business consists of 8 responsive websites, multiple digital channels, native applications, and distribution platforms. Our Seattle-based team is responsible for the design, development and support of the evolving ABC OTV digital media portfolio of products.
Responsibilities
The Web Developer will create optimized solutions across multiple devices and screens, including desktops, tablets, smartphones, and connected televisions by implementing efficient, reusable, and scalable code using Web technologies such as Tea (a proprietary server-side scripting language) or similar templating languages, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript. The Web Developer often faces very difficult technical challenges alone and is expected to conceive elegant solutions to produce a high-quality final product.
Additionally, they will assist teammates and stakeholders with less experience to improve their technical understanding through informal channels. The Web Developer will motivate others, through example, to actively refactor our process to save future time and effort. They also help communicate and enforce proper coding standards within the production team.
Basic Qualifications
• A minimum of 2 years hands-on Web development experience in a professional environment
• Experience implementing efficient, reusable, and scalable code using Web technologies such as Tea (a proprietary server-side scripting language), HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
• Detailed understanding of front-end programming: Tea (or similar server-side scripting language), HTML5, JavaScript, jQuery, CSS3, AJAX, JSON
• Working knowledge of current HTML/CSS/JS support across browser vendors
• Takes ownership of projects and sees them through to their completion
• Experience using version control systems in a collaborative environment, e.g. Git
• Strong communication skills
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting
• Highly creative problem solver with excellent collaboration and communication skills
• Effective analytical ability, debugging and troubleshooting skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience developing responsive sites using advanced web technologies (e.g. Javascript frameworks and libraries; jQuery, ReactJS, NodeJS, Gulp)
• Experience with Agile scrum
• Experience consuming APIs including authentication
• Experience with content management systems, publishing workflows and tools
• Experience with video technologies, workflow and playback experiences
Required Education
• Bachelor's degree, preferably in Computer Science or a related technology field OR equivalent experience
