Senior Software Engineer (Android - Mobile)
ABC Owned Television Stations (OTVS) is seeking a Senior Mobile Software Engineer (Android) to help build and support high-traffic mobile and OTT applications and services. The ideal candidate is passionate about solving complex problems and has a track record of success in delivering new features and products. In this role, you will work with a cross-functional team of Product Managers, Systems Engineers, Web Developers, Editors, and Sales staff to create innovative technologies in the digital news space.
Our ABC Owned Television Stations Group is comprised of 8 television stations and a national sales division with critical reach and market leadership across major U.S. cities. Our ABC OTVS digital media business consists of 8 responsive websites, multiple digital channels and 24 mobile and OTT applications (iOS, Android and FireTV). Our Seattle-based team is responsible for the design, development and support of the evolving ABC OTV digital media portfolio of products.

Responsibilities
• Consistently write performance-minded, highly-reliable code using best practices
• Work closely with other engineers to investigate design approaches, prototype new technology and evaluate technical feasibility of new features
• Manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, exciting environment
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues, problems, and errors encountered across our various endpoints
• Perform code reviews
• Analyze user stories and participate in sprint planning, scrums, demos and retrospectives
• Accountable for performance and usability in all Android solutions
Basic Qualifications
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
• 5 years of software development experience with a minimum of 2 years of Android development experience
• Experience using Java and other mobile app programming languages
• Experience using version control systems such as Git
• Proven ability to work with all members of an extended and diverse project team
• Must be detail-oriented, self-organized, committed to quality and capable of tracking multiple issues simultaneously
• Strong Android mobile application development skills with a proven record of creating commercial quality software
• Experience with developing mobile applications that interface with Restful services
TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Strong knowledge of Java and Android technologies
• Strong analytical ability, debugging and troubleshooting skills
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
• Excellent time management skills
• Disciplined approach to software development. Includes defining and enforcing engineering best practices
• Expert level knowledge: Object Oriented Programming
• Expert understanding of Computer Science Fundamentals
• Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with Agile development practices (namely SCRUM)
• Understanding of front-end programming: JavaScript, AJAX, JSON
• Experience using JavaScript frameworks such as jQuery
• Ability to learn and adapt to unfamiliar technologies, both open-source and proprietary
• Ability to clearly communicate with non-technical stakeholders
• Experience with content management systems, publishing workflows and tools
• Experience with video technologies, workflow and playback experiences
• Familiarity with iOS development
• Experience developing applications for set top devices such as FireTV, Roku, etc.
Required Education
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience in the software development field
