The Director of Production for Reversion Content will lead the strategic development and repurposing of serial content into new high-level network specials, series and properties across all Discovery Networks. This is an evolving role and is the dedicated point of contact for The Agency’s Production team for all aspects of long form reversion content. The role is responsible for the oversight and management of more than 700 new content hours yearly, across multiple networks. Under tight deadlines this individual will oversee and manage a team of producers, production coordinators, editors and AP’s, who liaise directly with a variety of network executives and GT&O as well as digital and international production teams across the DCL portfolio to ensure seamless production of content from green light through delivery.
The Director of Production is responsible for protecting the networks’ brands by ensuring that the content is produced to the highest industry standards while being creatively on the mark and delivered according all DCL broadcast standards. This role partners with all Discovery Network content and Programming Heads and reports directly to VP Creative for The Agency Production team. Must be a creative self-starter with vast television post production and editorial experience able to make decisions under tight deadlines with limited information. Flexible hours are a must. Multi-tasker able to handle production teams of 7 or more required. Understanding of DCL delivery standards and process for tracking and attaining access to inventory content a must.
Responsibilities:
1. Creatively develop new and repurposed content as directed and commissioned by network programming and content heads.
2. Proactively develop editorial strategies within creative, operational and financial specifications.
3. Ensure timely and efficient communication with EP’s, and network content heads to ensure creative execution of content, budget and schedule status.
4. Run weekly touch base “status” meetings with all network executives for all series and specials on the Reload and Reversion schedule.
5. Oversight and maintenance of the production tracker detailing financial and production information.
6. Responsible for keeping all key stakeholders informed and up to date on timely decisions and health of all productions.
7. Leverage production skill and understanding of DCI process to be flexible and responsive to ever changing timelines, specifically focusing on programming schedules.
8. Foster an inclusive creative and collaborative culture that shares cross network best practices.
9. Liaise directly with PM and HOP and VP on budgets, schedules and qtrly actuals for all productions in process.
10. Leverage value of digital assets and understand their role and importance within the reload on-air strategy.
11. Ensure production requirements are fully understood by content providers in order to review and negotiate viable budget propositions.
12. Accountable for ensuring the price of each production is agreed with the network and that complete delivery is feasible within the proposed timeframe.
13. Responsible for identifying and mitigating any risks, and escalating issues at the earliest point.
14. Maintain productive communication across all client partners including Network Production, Scheduling, Marketing, Communications and International along with Corporate Operation counterparts ensuring all relevant deliverables and master delivery date issues are swiftly communicated.

Requirements:
* BS/BA in film and Production or related field or equivalent experience.
* Proven track record in long form content development, production, and delivery.
* Strong knowledge of production logistics, rights issues, talent negotiations and current industry standard practices.
* Deep knowledge of post-production resources, technology and assets necessary.
* Experience in the multiplatform space a plus.
* Support innovation and best practice across multiplatform productions.
* Ability to prioritize resources among multiple concurrent projects.
* Strategically lead team to continually expand, enhance and refine opportunities for quicker more efficient asset management.
* Strong management, communication and interpersonal skills.
* Recognize when to consult, seek consensus or make a decision, alone.
* A self-starter willing to work flexible hours who has decision making expertise in all aspects of production and working within the Discovery guidelines and framework.
* Have a thorough understanding of cable business and related content laws.
* 10 years editorial, or television experience in a network environment.
* Experience managing teams of 7 necessary.
* Must have the legal right to work in the US
